Both are the keys to success, but the only difference is hardwork gives us the experience whereas smart work comes from the experience. When we work hard we get expertise, and helps us to do that work smartly.

In a simple way, the difference between hard work and smart work is:
Doing a work having less knowledge about how to do it is hard work.
Doing a work having more knowledge about how to do it is smart work.

Sir in my opinion hard work leads smart work.
If you work hard in the beginning you can learn new things. Which can help you to work smartly in hard work your body leads. But in smart work your brain leads.

Hard work is something we do naturally in order to achieve something.
Smart work is something that we do work but in a similar way that really takes down the stress which we get when we are in the problem.

Hard work: It means how long time you can work, depend on your strengths.
Smart work: How soon you can solve the work and with your positive idea, it reduce the time and can solve the critical conditions?

Smart work means doing the things in a fraction of second by applying logic, tricks, tips so that time and efforts are not much required.

Hard work is when you don't have the tools, resources and time to complete a task well. Smart work is having a plan and the equipment/skills necessary to be successful. It is comfortable, natural to you.

I would say smart work comes from hard work only. As there is one theory also that 'Work hard until you get smart. So, in my point of view you can do smart work only if you have work harder in your life.
