By looking back at the life, we can analyse our past mistake and by implementing the lesson learnt from those mistakes in the present can definitely lead to the better future.

I do not believe on looking back because our past can not decide our future what present does. Learning from past is good but when failure in past gives rise disappointment, it is good to forget it and try to build our future on present efforts.

I believe in present because in courses of time it becomes our past. Future also depends upon your present activity. If we live in present with proper planning, approach of destination our past and future is good. No matter how hard it is but ultimately we get experience, which we get definite idea which to avoid or not and what to do.

As all of us know our elders always say that forget the past but never repeat the mistakes that we had done in the past and concentrate on the present to build up a bright future. I follow that principle.
