As we all know, patenting anything has both good and bad sides to it. There are two types of goods, consumer staples, which are required by all as necessary, and consumer discretionaries, which are luxuries, that everyone cannot afford. For a country like india, where more than 40% of people are below poverty line, it would be unjust on our part to patent the consumer staples, like health care, medicine. We can't make someone reap the benefits of their patents, keeping the lives of the poor people at stake. But at the same time, patenting of technologies like those used in the mobile industry would certainly spur the economy by encouraging research in that field.

India is land of many rare plant and animal species which are endemic to Indian soil. Not only this we Indians hve many traditional knowledge's in our old vedas and puranas. Either it may be the medicinal use of TULSI or turmeric, plastic surgery of great shushurata or recent basmti rice issue. If we don't have patent then our traditional knowledge will be used by some foreign MNCs to their profit without asking its real owner. SO patent is must to conserve and maintain our endemic resources from its commercial use.

Patent laws form a very important part of a developing nation and as such its enforceability opens up many opportunities for India. In the early 1990's, FDI was restricted many because our lack of patent laws made it difficult for MNC's to protect their intellectual property. Now that patent protection is being enforced, MNC's are more comfortable bringing in technology and intellectual property making India more richer.
However, the pharma industry which was a striving business under the policy of process patent was dealt irreparable harm by the enforcement of product patent when India joined the WTO.
Also, there have been cases where seeds of Indian farmers have been patented by a foreign counterparty due to lack of awareness and funds of the former. For example, recently the you. S. Government granted a patent for the anti-diabetic properties of karela, jamun, and brinjal to two non-resident Indians, Onkar S. Tomer and Kripanath Borah, and their colleague Peter Gloniski. Yet the use of these substances for control of diabetes is everyday knowledge and practice in India.

According my point of view Patent bill is good for India. As it encourages inventor to discover or invent new things in medicine. It helps poor student to show their talent through new invention as well as remove various critical disease of human being. The duplicate medicine can be easily identified. But for poor people the govt of India should make relaxation in patent bills.

Hello,
In my point of view its definitely good to India because many of the companies like pharma invest a lot of money to carry out research to develop a new drug into market. To get back the invested amount in research patents are required. It also encourages the research to be carried out in India.

Yes the patent bill might be good to country & the world as well but it has several side-effects on the developing nations. Developing nations lack funds 2 carry out research on their traditional knowledge. Developed nation with their capital research traditional knowledge of a developing nation & then commercially exploit it by taking a patent based on that traditional knowledge.

Hello everyone,
As we know that patents is a form of intellectual property and its granted to those inventor who invents any new, non obious and should have industrial application. Because of patents we gets incentives to Indian pharma company, better living statndards, good healthy competition amongs industry and more innovatives products comes into markets but at same time its cost lives because anything which is under patent do costly and we are not enogh rich to buy the produt so what I meant it having disadvantages also like if do patent on life saving drugs then definetly it will cost to poor or need person. Finally at the end its all depends on inventors percepton.

In my point of view patent bill is important for our country. Now a days unemployment is high due to some problems. If patent bill is there then enterprises are increased, because of innovative thoughts of youth. By this unemployment also decreases.

Hello friends,
As per the topic is 'patents bill good for India'.
Actually, first we have to know what patent does it means. It is the bill or an agreement which is officially done at a world level that the real inventor of the product is that one who actually invented it by spending a lot of time, money and most important his/her hard work.
If the scientist or an inventor does not get its real value or we can say a reward that means the inventor not getting his/her rights so how he/she will again invent something which is beneficial for the country and this not only effect on him that create a big effect on the young generation who's having an interest on research.
So it will be good to have a patents bill for India or every country that will encourage the inventor as well as a young generation who we called a futures of India.
Thank you.
