Hi, while most people who've spoken above have said that the laws in India should be made stricter, how I ask them will they be made stricter? Also, moving to the issue that swapping terrorists for hostages increases incidences of plane hijacking, this is true but not only regarding plane incidences. Don't we bow down to Naxalites when they kidnap any public servent? What we should have is a strong framework to be implemented in a situation like this. We should have skilled and trained negotiators who can act as mediators in situations like this. Also merely increasing security checks isn't the answer because in a country as populous as India plugging all loopholes in security is a distant dream.

Why not make the people more aware and responsible? Impart training- basic training to everyone- students, homemakers, professionals regarding security and how to respond if and when such a situation arises. And people, we do have very strict laws and execution and capital punishment is not the answer. The reason why Kasab is still in jail is because no matter how great an offence, the undertrial has the right to a proper and rigorous defence not only to prove whether he's really guilty but also to ensure that he gets the right amount of punishmant if he's guilty and to deliver justice. The function of the Judiciary is to impart justice not exact vengeance.

Hello friends, I think the swapping of terrorist against hostages is not good. Because those terrorist who got freedom may be more harmful and can able to kill more people in comparison to hostages. I like introduce a point that if they killed our hostages then first we have to give a warning to those terrorist who kidnapped the people. If they kill our hostages then we will kill those terrorists who are arrested by the govt.

Then if they killed hostages then our police has to kill the terrorist also.

By this terrorist got the negative felling about their people. Here govt, has to follow the policy of "TIT FOR TAT". This policy works and the terrorist didn't have the will to do that again. Because if they kill our people then we kill theirs. So they got afraid and do not try to do this type shame thing.

I have a real example of this policy. The example is our armed forces. They do the same if the other country do that. If other country kills our soldiers then our armed force will do the same.

Let us think about the soldiers of our country. They sacrifice their life to our country. It is not only their duty to save our country. We are also the member of this country we also have to think about the country. If security of our country has a price of our life then we have to ready for those sacrifices.

It is easy said than done. To my opinion hostages should not be swaped with terrorists. Plane hijacks are carried out with the ulterior motive of freeing deadly terrorists from custody. And for that terrorist groups make hostage of the innocent citizen. And black mail the government I duly acknoledge that citizen safety is the utmost duty of govt but if a miscarriage happens it should be tackled tactfully instead of bowing down to the demands. Almost 200 passengers board a mid sized plane. But if these terrorists are let free they will carry out several other terror attacks worldwide which may cause several thousand lives of other innocent citizen. Military paramilitary personels should be trained to do their best effort to bring back the hostages safely. Citizen must support govt in taking this tough decision but terror master minds should not be swaped with hostages for the sake of unforeseen future.

Obviously this swapping thing is an encouraging factor to terrorists, and that is why they are Hijacking planes repeatedly!

But this should not be the perspective to look at this issue. i.e., "whether encouraging or discouraging!".

"what is going wrong with the system that is allowing the terrorists to do so! and what should be done to avoid such errs!" should be the perspective. We have many options like increasing the security personnel at airports, phase wise checking, keeping security guards along with the Air hostess and pilots inside air planes etc. Every one should be checked not only at the check points but mainly at the door of the airplane.

Safe guarding nation from terrorists is important, but disclosing loopholes to security in the form of hostages should be given a serious thought. After all safe journey is what people expect!

Hi I'm vishal and I totally agree with this that swapping terrorists in exchange wid hostages gives rise in plane-hijacking, example-if some terrorist hijacks a plane carrying 200 passengers and for a person who is currently in jail to be released, then you can understand from this that how important is that person to the terrorists. When taht terrorist is released he can also be a major part of another 9/11 or 26/11 attack. If its that much easy for terrorists to retain such a dangerous person then its definately goona increase their confidence and encourage them to hijack plane. Only solution to this is tht terrorists shud not be released easily, try to retain hostages by attacking them by building commando teams. By doing this, they will think many times before doing any such activity.

In my point of view when a terrorist found guilty, he should be executed as soon as possible so that the condition for exchanging of hostages would never come in future. But, as India is a soft nation where hearing of any case takes many years to give a firm decision. This is the reason why Kasab still enjoying in jail.

Keeping a terrorist for a long time is definitely encouraging further plane hijacks. & at that time we will have no choice but to fulfill all their demands. Because we cant negotiate when hundreds of lives of our people are in stake.

So to avoid such kind of hijacking terrorists should be given capital punishment as soon as possible. Another thing is to make security as tight as possible.

In hostage situations, another angle to approach the situation is to use the U.S strategy of "We do not negotiate with terrorists"
However in most cases, this situation cannot be applied in most situations as there is always a human life at stake.
So it always boils down to the question "Is one life worth another?" If we exchange a terrorist for a hostage, that free terrorist could end up killing more people. If we do not exchange the terrorist for a hostage, the hostage could lose his/her life. So it's a very difficult decision to make, after all, this situation is very similar to playing god!

Yes swapping will increase their encouragement there is no doubt in it.

What I think is to stop these bloody terrorist to ever do such activity is by "fast shot" method, that is to give no mercy to any terrorist. Means If army catches any terrorist at the cost of their life, then their is no justice in providing life for years to these bloody terrorist and waste our hard earned tax paid money on them. Its better to get all information from them as soon as possible and then send them to hell.

I damn sure this will not only stop their courage to hijack any plane, but also their evil mind to do such activity.

Exchanging jailed terrorists with hostages could be argued both ways. Each one has their point of view. Both are neither right nor wrong. But the consequence is that these terrorists (murders) will definitely kill many more innocent people in near future. That means we are saving known lives of hostages at the expense of many more unknown lives in near future. Also, think about soldiers or policemen who lost their lives for arresting these jailed terrorists. I don't think any Government has that power. Therefore dealing with terrorists is an issue but jailed terrorists should never be released.

Hello everybody. I think it as an encouragement for hijackers. As some of my friends said, the terrorist must be hanged as soon as possible after collecting adequate info from him. Also the security checks must be strict or security level must be high. One of my friends mentioned above to allow security guards in the plane. But who knows if the security guard in the plane is also a part of the terrorist team. You may also come up with the point that this may happen at the airport too. But that's why we are focussing on increasing levels of security.
