First of all, we need a smart person in the society after that smart city' and for that we need a literate person. It will be possible only when our government focus on education standard rather than providing facilities for education. After that, we can think of the smart city. For a smart city, standard of people must be smart.

India is going to the path of development. And it is also a great way to say that we are developing by making cities smart.
But we also think about the great part of the population which have only one problem that they are hungry. They have little Education, they don't want smart cities even they don't know about smart cities.
I think the government should take a step to do something for them. The Government should give technology to the deep in India. So I think education should be given to them. And when education is given. It may work easily to make cities smart and make people smart firstly.

Yes, India is in need of smart cities because India is still a developing country.
If smart cities are developed then there will be development in economy, technology, infrastructure, the standard of living and most importantly unemployment gets reduced. If a city is sanctioned as a smart city, the govt will develop it as a technology hub, social hub and digital hub, by providing many facilities like modern schools, highly equipped hospitals, good transport facilities, improved water and electricity supply, reduction in pollution (clean and green traffic), many more digital facilities. Mainly the security system provided for the city will also be developed.
Before making a city as a smart city, first the people should be made aware of the computer technology and duties of a decent and hygiene citizen.
Ultimately it is the responsibility of the people to realise that a smart city is a boon for them by the govt and should keep it as a hygiene smart city. The people should get motivated and should mould themselves to become a decent, smart and hygiene citizen of a smart city.
Thus, if the govt and people work towards these smart cities, then surely we can see India in the race of developed countries.

We need smart villages also but we can't compare the both. Because citizens of big cities deserve a high profile life. They have knowledge and education up to that level which is required to use all modern facilities and ICT tools.
The Dark side of this that it will increase the discrimination against the lower class and upper class. But in the sense of to do for all. If we don't do for some. It is not faring for that.

Yes, we need smart cities but at a later stage. In present scenario there are still many problems which we have to fight with. Before smart cities we need to educate people about internet. There are still many people who doesn't even know about internet. There are many villages where electricity is not available for even 16 hours.

In my opinion, before making smart cities we should be smart so that government should also work on people development. I think smart people can make a city smart but the reverse is not possible therefore before making cities smart government should also work on improving digitalisation. Increasing computer literacy rate so that they can use the service provided.

NEED is a strong word but yes we can look forward to at least work to attain its half proportion. Besides the Indian government needs to solve its basic problems such as poverty, education, agriculture, relations with Pakistan, etc. To make India have smart cities would be difficult but not impossible. As making the society go cashless has not arrived at its full potential because of the lack of education among most people.

Earlier Smart city Mission has been implemented in various cities like Stockholm (Sweden), Suwon (south Korea), Singapore etc only when people there are able to understand the need and use of Smart cities.
One of the basic things in the Smart city mission is the combining Internet of things and ICT and the computer literacy of India is only 6.3% due to which they will not understand the use of Smart Cities. So, smart cities require Smart people and Government should work on both of it.

Yes, It needs for the present hour. Because it's one of most important thing for any country to become a developed nation. Even after getting independence we don't even have one smart city this show we are developing at snails pace. Since it's very costly the returns would also be good. And, also we are at the start so we should start with one city and analyze and move accordingly.
