In my opinion we do need smart cities but on the verge of ill conditions of the village. The main motto is to focus firstly on the development of villages which forms the core of the India. In the current scenario villages are not having lights more dan 18000 villages doenst have power adding to that education should be improved. Government should start programmes for the awareness for the development of rural area.

Hello, one and all!
In my point of view, India requires smart cities but not as much as the majority crowd requires shelter food and clothing. If we talk about facts and figures, about 70 % of the total Indian population do not have their own houses, 40% of the total population do not make enough for food and about 50% of the total population cannot afford to have the kind of clothing one requires for comfortable living (average quality clothing). Food, clothing, and shelter are the three basic human needs.
I think catering with these problems firs should be the priority of Indian government. Once these necessities are fulfilled, then the Government should definitely look forward to infrastructural developments like smart cities.

Well first answering your question that do we need smart cities the answer would be YES. But not now as you might have witnessed That the GDP has decreased to 5.6% from 7% from previous year. And there are lots of serious issue which needs to be addressed first.
India is a huge country it requires a lot of funds for making a city smart and at the same time we have other issues like malnutrition, poverty, illiteratcy, unemployment. So these things need to be sort out first.
Government should emphasize more on smart people instead of smart cities, making people aware of the happening in and around the world. Sooner or later smart city will turn into the dull one if people aren't smart enough.

Absolutely smart cities are the things we needed to get access a to our things on tips. We can't deny that the tagline is perfectly suitable for smart cities is " where ever you go we follow" they will help us in making our life easier.
Recently, I had read that in a Europe with the installation of smart meters there is a decrease in the number of Electricity thefts and power loss in transmission by keep monitoring of electricity from a utility to consumers.
Some adverse affect of smart cities are also their we will be relying on a machine for our work, there will be a degradation in the health of the humans, there will be more unemployment.

We don't need smart cities. Because there is a poor villages in a huge amount. The government has to spend the money to develop the poor villages. That villages having a problems like electricity, road problems, medical problems, proper education and also having more problems. If the people concentrate on these problems then no need about the smart cities. If we overcome these problems then every village will become a smart city automatically.

First of all, we need smart people rather than smart cities, who follow all the rules and regulations made by government and behave as a responsible citizens. Because as per international survey 80% people do not follow the general rules which is made for their safety. So if we make the smart cities without smart people then smart cities became dull cities in nearly future.

India is a developing country. It requires huge fund for different sectors. But it is not affordable for India at this point of time to invest such huge amount in development of smart cities. For any project or task, it is important to first form the foundation. It requires developing little more before spending on smart cities. Resolving problems relating to malnutrition, poverty, unemployment, illiteracy and such more are needed at this foundation level. After that, the development process can start which can be metro projects or may be smart cities project.
