Are beauty contests degrading womanhood?

As the name suggests "Beauty contests". Beauty contests are not just a platform to showcase the beauty of the body. Indeed, it's a platform to display the beauty of one's soul and heart. A heart of selfless mind, a heart for the religion of humanity. If it is the real definition of beauty in my eyes. How can it degrade womanhood? where we see the beauty of a woman in every aspect: as a mother, as a daughter, as a wife, as a sister or as a friend. In the definition of god, women are the one of the most beautiful creation. It's the viewpoints and thoughts of the society which needs to change with respect to the beauty contests. Society should encourage women to be a part of it as its made with a whole and sole ideology to build confidence and to make them bold and beautiful. As we know that "with great powers come great responsibility ". So, it's a responsibility of the people working under the beauty contests not to misuse powers in their hands and not to ruin its integrity.

I totally agree with the topic. Beauty contest not just mean to flaunt the body, it is all concerned with 'beauty with brains'. There is a round called 'Swim-suit round' in which ladies have to wear swimming costume and have to flaunt their figure. I do not agree with this thing as this does not serve the real purpose of the contest.

The actual purpose of this contest is to check the contestant's ability to speak, to think positively, to make correct decisions, to work for the development of the country and last but not the least to be an extempore speaker.

The mirror is the first thing whenever someone walks out of the house. Why someone looks at the mirror because he wants to look beautiful in front of others. If you see this as a competition then there is nothing wrong.

Beauty contests should be open for every woman living on this planet. The criteria for participation in such contests must include each woman of this earth. There should be no discrimination on the basis of body height, body color, age, ethnicity, region, language, culture, education, economy, etc. Each woman's contributions in any fields must be evaluated and judged. A few numbers of person cannot judge all contributions made by women. Therefore, these must be judged by the majority of concerned people. Till the date, almost all the beauty contests show a discriminatory stereotyped pattern ---- Winner remains Tall, Thin and English speaking. This depicts the dark side of beauty contests.

On this planet, every woman should be respected. Each woman should be crowned instead of only one. Then, such beauty contests can be able to empower women and respect womanhood.

Beauty contests degrade the participants and not ALL women. I completely fail to see the point in competing with other women over something as pointless and superficial and temporary as physical beauty. I feel very very sorry for the contestants. What sad lives they must have to feel the need to be validated in front of the world/country/state etc. By being the most "beautiful" woman in the are. What exactly is the point of this competition? What is being achieved by it? Is it only for entertainment? The hapless contestants feel the entire world is watching THEM when actually they are just fodder for the spectator's idle entertainment. To each his own I say and live and let live. But when the practices of some people become popular and start harming other aspirants. Physically. Mentally. Emotionally. That is when we put our foot down. If we are going to have a contest on beauty why not keep a contest where the winner is the person with the most INNER beauty? Why does that idea not sound as appealing as watching a contest for physical beauty? Thats right. Because the audience doesn't really care about the contestants or what they do or how they contribute to this world. They just want to leer and feast their eyes on beautiful bodies and after the show go home to their spouse and forget about the women altogether.

Beauty contest is not degrading womanhood, but there must be some rules like women should wear saree in place of short dresses because if someone is beautiful then she can look beautiful in both saree and short dress and saree is our traditional dress also. Other criterias of judging women should remain as it is in beauty contests.

It can be the perfect intermediate solution of people who consider beauty contests as degrading because it is the only reason why they dislike it. Any mother does not like that her daughter may wear short dress at adult age.

By doing so we can explode our culture as well and may teach our tradition to other countries not learn the western culture from others. We should learn technology skills from them not the manner of shorting dress because after all we are indians and we take our culture first then anything else.

I think, Beauty contest gives a unique platform to woman for her enhancement. It is not all about the outer beauty that matters but the complete beauty of one that covers IQ, talent, skill, emotions and vision.

Beauty contest is degrading our Indian culture because young girls are accepting western culture for beauty contest and forgetting Indian culture.

Some dark side of beauty contest - winner remains tall, thin and english speaking.

Every women on this planet should be crowned instead of only one then such beauty contest will be able to empower women and respect womanhood.

Hello, guys this is Manisha Rana and I want to say that Beauty contests are not degrading womanhood as woman should also give the right to do what they want and given a chance to stand up in front of the world and prove that she is not less than anybody.

In my opinion, a beauty contest is such a platform where a girl or a woman can show that she is not only a slave, not only a utility good to consume, she does possess her own value which she expresses to the world by means of her beauty, smartness and other excellence also.

If somebody thinks that beauty contest is all about showing body, then it is his own problem in that case contest and women have nothing to do with that.
