Gypsum increase the setting time of cement.

Setting time of cement means?

I think, if the cement sets fastly, it will not be stronger.

Because gypsum decrease the time of setting but in case of constructing bridges in across oceans we need to decrease the amount of adding gypsum in cement that will sets quickly.

Setting means how quickly it becomes hardened, if gypsum not added then it hardened fast that is not useful in making building so it is added to increase setting time.

I think you understood it.

While doing construction work of dam & in water bodies there is water segregated quickly. So we add less gypsum. Gypsum inversely proportional to setting time.
