Gypsum increase the setting time of cement.

Setting time of cement means?

I think, if the cement sets fastly, it will not be stronger.

Because gypsum decrease the time of setting but in case of constructing bridges in across oceans we need to decrease the amount of adding gypsum in cement that will sets quickly.

Setting means how quickly it becomes hardened, if gypsum not added then it hardened fast that is not useful in making building so it is added to increase setting time.

I think you understood it.

Why gypsum only no other substance has properties like gypsum?

Why gypsum is added?

While doing construction work of dam & in water bodies there is water segregated quickly. So we add less gypsum. Gypsum inversely proportional to setting time.

Gypsum is used to increase the setting time of cement. Rapid hardening cement has more gypsum that is why it is used in underwater construction. So in place of decrease it should be increase.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

Gypsym has to be added for to prevent the flash setting in cement.

When is gypsum added to cement?

Ashutosh Gaur said: (Nov 9, 2017)
Your answer is wrong. Gypaum is added to increase the setting of cement not to decrease it. For under water construction the quantity of gypsum is increased to increase the setting rate of cement.

Gypsum is used to increase the setting time of cement.

Gypsum is added to cement to decrease the setting rate of cement that is increase setting time.

Anisha Sinha said: (Mar 29, 2018)
By adding gypsum to cement setting time of cement increases.

Ankur said: (May 30, 2019)
I think gypsum is inversely proportional to setting time so it decreases.

@all.

Gypsum is added to INCREASE SETTING TIME (i.e. To prolong setting time) which means, DECREASE the RATE OF SETTING.
