First things it is not Polythene it is Polyethylene.
Poly = many, mer = unit, Polymer = Many units,
Mono = single or One, Monomer = single unit,
Polyethylene = Polymer.
Ethylene = Monomer, So Monomer of Polyethylene is ethylene.
Ex, Monomer of Polypropylene is Propylene.

As we know polymer is double bond because monomer + monomer is called polymerization.

Polythene polymer form by addition polymerization reaction. In the formation polythene polymer repeated addition of unsaturated ethylene monomer takes place.

Yes @Bikash is right.
Polymerization process is different depends of catalyst, temperature. Process involve initiation, propagation and termination. Based on that we got LDPE, HDPE, LLDPE, UHMWPE etc.

Ethylene is the Monomer. The reaction is in the following way.
Polymerization.
CH2=CH2 ------------------> (--CH2-CH2--)n
Monomer Polymer.

No.of monomers are called polymers. So ethylene monomers are called polythene.
