For the manufacture of vanaspati, edible vegetable oils are extractedand they are of two types.

1. Expeller quality
2. Solvent extracted oil.

The second one can not be used directly. So, they are treated with "HYDROGEN"gas for the preparation of vanaspati.

Unsaturated vegetable oil is converted into vanaspati a saturated compound so to do so it is needed that the bonds of oil molecule be held tightly together which is done by placing H atom.
