Some semiconductor may be develop by taking element of 3A & 5A like GaAs.

The resistance of semiconductor lies between conductors and insulators and it is a negative temperature coefficient material i.e. when temperature increases the resistivity of the material decreases.

1,2,3 valance is - conductor.

4 is - semiconductor.

5,6,7 is - insulator.

8 valance is - noble gas .

So valence electrons are in semiconductor is 4.

A semiconductor has a gap of 1 electron volt because of this valance band and conduction band can not overlap each each other. Thus flow of current is only possible when it get heated then valance band and conductor band overlap each other for example silicon and germanium which is used in making special type of semiconductor or you can say industrial devices like fet ujt zener diode triac diac devices.

Best example is silicon, but how can we justify is is for silicon from question?

A semiconductor remains partially full valence band and partially full conduction band at the room temperature.

We can also say using the bonds.

Conductor - Ionic bonds.
Insulator - covalent bonds.
Semiconductor - coordinate covalent bonds.

When the no.of valence electron is less than 4 then that will be a metal ion and when the no.of valence electron is more than 4 then it is a nonmetal.

But if the no.of valence electron is exactly 4 then it is a semiconductor.

Its temperature co-efficient is -ve. While conductors are +ve co-efficient of temperature.

OK for valence electrons are in the semi conductor.
