PN junction diode is bipolar as conduction is due to both holes and electrons.

The Schottky diode is uni polar as conduction is only due to only one carrier.

When switching from the conducting to the blocking state, a diode or rectifier has stored a charge that must first be discharged before the diode blocks reverse current. This discharge takes a finite amount of time known as the Reverse Recovery Time.
