Formula for finding resistance is
for finding max value=(ABx10^C)+T%
for finding min value=(ABx10^C)-T%
where A= 1st band colour
B= 2nd band colour
C= 3rd band colour
T= 4th band colour (tolerance)

here in this question
Brown =1
red =2
yellow=4
Gold =5%

So acc... to formula
(ABx10^C)+T%
(12x10^4)+5%
we get 120000+((120000*5)/100)

So answer is 120000+6000 =126000 ohm
(1)

120000*5/100=6000+120000=1260000

Why are the resistance have a colour code ?

Parveen said:   1 decade ago
Because we are not know the value of RES without multimeter or ohm meter so colour is best option.

Please tell me about colour coding of resistances and how to calculate the values of RES ?

Answer is 126000.

Because,

Brown-1.
Red-2.
Yellow-4.
Gold-tolerance of 5%.

120000 + 5% = 126000.

Brown - 1.
Red - 2.
Yellow - 4.

Brown red yellow,

12*10^4=120000.

Tolerance 5%.

Tolerance 5*(120000/100)=6000.
So 120000+6000=126000.

Answer is 126000.

I got answers 120000, by not adding +_ 5%. By adding 5% the answer is 126000.

The right answer is 120000 Ohms + 6000 Ohms = 126000.

120000*.05 = 6000 the tolerance of gold.

@Dalmar is Right.

Why we adding 6000?

Because they asking the maximum resistance value. So we should add the tolerance of gold for 120000(120000*.05 = 6000).

If they ask minimum value we need to subtract 6000 from 120000.
