The number 65,000 can be expressed in different scientific notations.
6.5 x 10^4
65 x 10^3
650 x 10^2
6500 x 10^1 .
These are all right, but based on the question "expressed in scientific notation as a number between 1 and 10 times a power of ten "
Option B is the correct answer, the number "6.5" is between 1 and 10.
6.5 x 10^4
65 x 10^3
650 x 10^2
6500 x 10^1 .
These are all right, but based on the question "expressed in scientific notation as a number between 1 and 10 times a power of ten "
Option B is the correct answer, the number "6.5" is between 1 and 10.

Sol:
65000= 65*1000
= [65*10^3]
= [65/10 * 10 * 10^3] {Multiple & divide 65 by 10}.
= [65/10 * 10 * 10^3 {10^3 3 is raised power 10},
= [65/10 * 10^4] {bases are same powers are added i.e 10^1 * 10^3=10^4},
= [6.5*10^4] {65/10=6.5}.
So, the Answer is (B).
65000= 65*1000

@Jannat.
The +1is added because of 65000 = 65 * (10^3) = 6.5 * 10^4.
6.5 = (65/10).
The +1is added because of 65000 = 65 * (10^3) = 6.5 * 10^4.
6.5 = (65/10).

65,000.
65 * 1000 = 65*10^3.
65 * (10/10) * 10^3.
(65/10) * (10^1*10^3).
6.5 * 10^4.
{a^m*a^n=a^(m+n)}.
65 * 1000 = 65*10^3.
65 * (10/10) * 10^3.
(65/10) * (10^1*10^3).
6.5 * 10^4.
{a^m*a^n=a^(m+n)}.

1000 = 1*10^3.
5000 = 5*10^3.
65000 = 65*10^3.
= 6.5*10^(3+1).
= 6.5*10^4.
5000 = 5*10^3.
65000 = 65*10^3.
= 6.5*10^(3+1).
= 6.5*10^4.
