When you divide x by y (x/y) you put 1 in the place of y and the quotient in the place of x.

Eg: 4 divided by 2 (or 4/2) is 2... actually it is 2 by 1 (or 2/1)..but here the denominator 1 has no real meaning.. so we take the answer as 2 alone.

However if you take the numerator as the divisor (in this case 451) and denominator as dividend (586) you need to put 1 in place of the divisor (i.e, numerator) and quotient in the place of dividend (i.e, denominator).

Ok we got 1/1.3. But how we get 10:13?
Please can anyone explain in a ease way?

Hi!

Why do we need to divide 451 to both 451 and 586?

Consider single year(1998) taxes and fuel, expenditure and calculate the ratio between them.

Taxes: Fuel and expenditure.

98:83 = 98/83 = 10/13.

@Sonam its simple.

We just need to multiply numerator and denominator by 10 so as to eliminate the decimal. We need fraction as a whole number.

1*10/1.3*10 = 10/13.

451

1350

1353(approx) i.e near number, hence 451/586 = 1/13.

Its that needs to divide twice?

1st 451 divide by 586 = 0.77 (approx).

2nd time 586 divide by 451 = 1.3.

Is this is the way to calculate? Please suggest. Thanks.
