The ratio between the total expenditure on Taxes for all the years and the total expenditure on Fuel and Transport for all the years respectively is approximately?

 [A]. 4:7 [B]. 10:13 [C]. 15:18 [D]. 5:8

Explanation:

Required ratio
 = (83 + 108 + 74 + 88 + 98) (98 + 112 + 101 + 133 + 142)
 = 451 586
 = 1 1.3
 = 10 . 13

Mahesh Pathak said: (Feb 7, 2011) How is answer 1:1.3 ? please tell me method of answer this question.

Aparna said: (Feb 15, 2011) See here 586 is divided by 451, we get 1/1.29 Which is approx. 1/1.3 Thats all but consumes some time.

Sunishah said: (Apr 6, 2011) Fast caluclation (451/586) please send.

 Raj said: (Oct 2, 2011) We get 456/586 = (0.77) Round off to 450/590(0.76) aprox then it becomes 45/59 = 3/4 = 1/( 4/3) = 1/1.3

Jagan said: (Jan 2, 2012) Hi Raj, how you have calculated 45/59?

Ami said: (Sep 1, 2012) Can you explain it little more clearly plz?

 Ami said: (Sep 1, 2012) When i divide 586 by 451, i got 1.30 How this can be 1:1.30?

Rakesh Goyal said: (Sep 16, 2012) Jagan 45/59 is nearly equal to 45/60 i.e 3/4

 Juluru Ashok said: (Jul 20, 2013) Simple method : Taxes = 451. Fuel & transportation = 451+135 =586. Taxes( Total = 451) 100 % : Fuel & Trans 130% ( 100% = 451 + 30% =135, Total =586 ). TAXES 100 Fuel & Trans 130. Therefore = 10 x 10 = 100 = 10 x 13 = 130. So 10 13. Answer 10 : 13.

 Rozie said: (Sep 19, 2013) Simplify 451/586 : 586/451 = 0.76 : 1.28. Approx. 1 : 1.3. Note that you can't leave ratio in decimal figure. So, you multiply (1:1.3) by 10 = 10 : 13. That's all.

Bhavani said: (Nov 30, 2013) How you taken 30%.

Rashmi said: (Jan 19, 2014) We can solve it in a very simple way as follows: Expenses in FUEL & TRANS is how much increased to that of expenses in TAXES. We can find the increase in percentage like this-> 586-451/451 x 100% = 30%. i.e 100/130 = 10/13 or 10:13.

Ranjitha said: (Jan 20, 2014) I'm not getting how to calculate the ratio 451/586?

 Kumar said: (Jan 25, 2014) 451/586. Take 451 as 450 and 586 as 590. Because as per approximation or numbers whatever rule it is ex: if the last digit number comes in b/w 1-5 i..e 451, 252, 555..it becomes 450 250 550 where as if the last digit no comes in b/w 6-10 like 456, 227, 228, 449...then take it As 460, 230, 230, 450. Now 450/590 45/59 45)59(1.3 45 --- 140 135 _____ 1/1.3 1*10/1.3/10 10/13.

Sravani said: (Feb 11, 2014) Hey, @Ami you divided 586 by 451 and you got 1.3. Actual is 451 divided by 586. You have to just reciprocal it. Then simply you will get 1:1.3. That's it yar.

Manel said: (Mar 11, 2014) How did you get the 1/1.29 answer particularly to 1?is it automatically to put 1 on 1.29 as a numerator?

Hariharan said: (Jun 16, 2014) When you divide x by y (x/y) you put 1 in the place of y and the quotient in the place of x. Eg: 4 divided by 2 (or 4/2) is 2... actually it is 2 by 1 (or 2/1)..but here the denominator 1 has no real meaning.. so we take the answer as 2 alone. However if you take the numerator as the divisor (in this case 451) and denominator as dividend (586) you need to put 1 in place of the divisor (i.e, numerator) and quotient in the place of dividend (i.e, denominator).

Sonam said: (Jul 22, 2014) Ok we got 1/1.3. But how we get 10:13? Please can anyone explain in a ease way?

Banu said: (Sep 17, 2014) Consider single year(1998) taxes and fuel, expenditure and calculate the ratio between them. Taxes: Fuel and expenditure. 98:83 = 98/83 = 10/13.

Anonymous said: (Oct 24, 2014) @Sonam its simple. We just need to multiply numerator and denominator by 10 so as to eliminate the decimal. We need fraction as a whole number. 1*10/1.3*10 = 10/13.

 Karthik said: (Jan 31, 2015) 451)586(1.3 451 --- 1350 1353(approx) i.e near number, hence 451/586 = 1/13.

Mahesh said: (Feb 22, 2015) Its that needs to divide twice? 1st 451 divide by 586 = 0.77 (approx). 2nd time 586 divide by 451 = 1.3. Is this is the way to calculate? Please suggest. Thanks.

Sirish Kumar said: (Feb 24, 2015) Guys, I hope you understood how we got to 451/586. Now just divide numerator and denominator with 451. i.e. , (451/451)/(586/451) and that is equal to 1/1.29. So rounding off the denominator to one digit gives 1/1.3. Now multiplying numerator and denominator by 10 gives (1*10)/(1.3*10). And thus we arrive at the solution i.e. , 10/13.

Monal said: (Oct 19, 2015) I am unable to catch the calculation friends. Please can you discuss clearly?

Rahu Gupta said: (Nov 4, 2015) Guys if the question is the ratio between the Fuel. And Transport (586) the total expenditure on Taxes (451) mean when the condition is 586/451 then what answer of that question please explain that.

Ahsan said: (Apr 28, 2016) Hi, I didn't get it, please explain how 451/586 is 10/13?

Pihu said: (Apr 30, 2016) Hi, Can anyone Please clarify my doubt? How (451/586 = 10/13). Please explain me with the easier method.

 Vithya said: (May 25, 2016) @Pihu. Very simple method: (approximation). (451 - 1) = 450 and (586 - 1) = 585. Now take these 2 values for calculation (we have subtracted the same amount from both numbers). Ratio = 450/585 = 90/117 = 30/39 = 10/13. Then, ratio = 10:13.

Rapheal said: (Jun 20, 2016) Is there any easy method to solve this problem.

Vinothini said: (Jun 20, 2016) I agree Vithya method is very easy to catch it.

Nitesh said: (Jul 3, 2016) You can make it easy with an approximation. 45/58 = 1/1.3.

 Sohail Malik said: (Oct 30, 2016) 451:586 = 10:13 Solution: 451/451 = 1*10 = 10 586/451 = 1.3*10 = 13

Shoaib said: (May 29, 2017) Hey, can anyone explain me this problem in the easiest method?

Sophie said: (Jul 11, 2017) How 1.3? Please explain the calculation.

Gaithaingam Ml said: (Jul 15, 2017) Here the question is about approximation, not about the exact ratio. the total expenditure on fuel and on taxes 586 and 451 respectively. Now, as per the question, we are going to find the ratio of fuel with respect to taxes. 586/451. We get. 1:1.3 or 1/1.3. We are not going to take decimal in the ratio. So, we'll multiply with 10 bcoz the decimal is just before one digit. If the decimal is before two digits we ll multiply with 100. So it is 10:13. Hope it is clear.

Sunfleur said: (Oct 11, 2017) Hi! Why do we need to divide 451 to both 451 and 586?

 Ishrat said: (Jan 19, 2018) 451:586 = 451/451:586/451 = 1:1.299. Which is aprox equal to 1:1.3 = 10:13.

Lalith said: (Dec 14, 2018) For easy calculate 451/586. 451*1 goes numerator. And, Denominator 1.29,so excatly 1.3, 1/1.3----------> point goes 10/13 for the ratio.

Akshaya said: (Apr 9, 2019) 451÷586 to round off. Now subtract -1 from both numerator and denominator. So 451-1=450 and 586-1 = 585. Now, it becomes 450÷585 then it can be divisible by 5. It becomes 90÷117 then divide it by 3 table It becomes 30÷39 again divisible by 3 table It becomes 10÷13. While taking ratio it can be said as 10:13.

Vinoth said: (Apr 10, 2019) Great, Thanks @Akshaya.

 Steja said: (Jun 27, 2019) Thanks @Akshaya.
