Finland's parliament recently approved a law allowing border guards to block asylum seekers crossing from Russia. This legislative move, supported by 167 out of 200 parliament votes, is aimed at enhancing national security and addressing concerns over potential migrations influenced by geopolitical factors involving Russia. Finland, with its capital in Helsinki, recognizes Finnish and Swedish as its official languages, and this law reflects its response to regional security challenges.

The 132nd session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council was held in London from July 8 to July 12, 2024. India, represented by Shri T.K. Ramachandran, Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, took a prominent role in this session. The Indian delegation emphasized seafarer welfare, and maritime security, and proposed the SACE-SMarT, highlighting India's substantial interest and active involvement in shaping global maritime policies.

Russia has extended an offer to assist India in constructing small nuclear power stations, emphasizing deep localization and transferring construction responsibilities to India. This collaboration expands on their existing partnership in nuclear energy technology, which includes joint efforts at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant and advancements in 4G nuclear technologies. The proposal underscores Russia's commitment to bolstering India's nuclear infrastructure through collaborative initiatives focused on technological transfer and localized construction capabilities.

India and Taiwan implemented a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) for Organic Products on July 8, 2024. This agreement allows certified organic products from both countries to enter each other's markets, facilitating trade. The agreement is overseen by India's Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and Taiwan's Agriculture and Food Agency. This MRA enhances the export of Indian organic products like Aromatic and Medicinal Plants, Rice, and Herbal Tea to Taiwan and allows Taiwan’s certified organic products to be imported into India, promoting bilateral trade in organic goods.

The Azerbaijan Army has participated in the "Birlestik-2024" joint military exercises in Kazakhstan. These exercises, involving several Central Asian nations, aim to enhance regional defence cooperation and readiness through joint operational planning and training scenarios. The participation of Azerbaijan underscores its commitment to regional security and collaborative efforts with neighbouring countries in defence and military operations.
