India was showcased as the theme country for the first time at the 27th Annual New Year Celebration of the Asia Pacific Cultural Centre, which took place at the Tacoma Dome in Washington. The emergency summit on the Ukraine crisis is being organized by Emmanuel Macron, the President of France. As Macron is from France, it follows that the summit will take place in this country. The summit involves leaders from several European nations discussing the implications of the Ukraine situation on European security, making France the host country for this key event.

The India-U.S. bilateral trade is expected to reach $500 billion by 2030 under the ‘Mission 500.’ This growth is driven by expanding trade, energy cooperation, and technological partnerships between the two countries. Key areas of collaboration include energy imports, nuclear technology, and defence cooperation. Strengthening ties with the United States is also expected to bolster India's strategic positioning globally and contribute to trade deficit reduction. The United States plays a central role in this evolving partnership, with significant implications for both countries' economic and geopolitical strategies.

Under the revised Free Movement Regime (FMR), 22 out of the 43 planned border gates along the India-Myanmar border have been activated. This is part of efforts to regulate movement while maintaining security across the largely unfenced northeastern border. The FMR, which was introduced in 1968 to facilitate cross-border movement due to ethnic and familial ties, has undergone changes over time, such as reducing the free movement limit from 40 km to 10 km. The border gates now require border passes that are validated with biometric data.

India holds the 6th position among the top 10 countries most affected by extreme weather events between 1993 and 2023. During this period, India experienced significant economic losses amounting to $180 billion and over 80,000 fatalities due to various disasters, including floods and heatwaves. Notable incidents include floods in 1993, 1998, and 2013, and heatwaves in 2002, 2003, and 2015. On a global scale, extreme weather events resulted in 765,000 fatalities and $4.2 trillion in damages, which is comparable to the GDP of Germany, emphasizing the severe impact of climate-related disasters worldwide.
