Current Affairs - Important Days - Discussion

October 9 is observed annually as World Post Day to commemorate the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874. The organisation was founded following the ratification of the Treaty of Bern by 22 states, creating a unified postal area for the international exchange of correspondence. In 1969, the UPU Congress in Tokyo decided to celebrate October 9 as the anniversary of the organisation. Later, in 1984, the UPU Congress in Hamburg officially renamed the occasion World Post Day. The 2026 theme is “One postal network, infinite possibilities,” highlighting the importance of postal services in connecting communities and supporting economic and social activities worldwide.
