August 30 is observed as National Small Industry Day in India to recognise the important contribution of small-scale enterprises to manufacturing, employment, industrial development, and economic growth. The observance commemorates the launch of a comprehensive policy package for the small-scale sector on August 30, 2000. Small industries contribute over 30% of the country’s total national output and play a significant role in promoting the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. The National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), established in 1955 under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, supports the sector through training, capacity building, and other specialised programs.
