ISRO’s second spaceport at Kulasekarapattinam in Tamil Nadu is projected to be completed and operational by December 2026. This facility, spread over 2,300 acres, will primarily cater to Small Satellite Launch Vehicles (SSLVs), with a planned capacity of 20–25 launches annually. Its coastal location near the equator allows safe, efficient launches into polar and sun-synchronous orbits, crucial for Earth observation satellites. Besides easing pressure on the Sriharikota spaceport, the new complex is expected to boost regional economic growth, generate employment, and foster aerospace innovation, strengthening India’s capacity to meet rising global demand for small satellite launches.
