November 27 has been designated as the International Day for the Elimination of Child, Early and Forced Marriage by the United Nations. The resolution was approved on September 6, 2026, and was steered by Sierra Leone, with India among the co-sponsoring countries. The date is significant for India as it corresponds with the launch of the Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat campaign on November 27, 2024. The initiative supports global efforts under Sustainable Development Goal 5, particularly Target 5.3, which seeks to eliminate harmful practices such as child, early, and forced marriage by 2030.

Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually in India on September 5 to honour the contribution of teachers to education, mentoring, and nation-building. The date marks the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a renowned philosopher, scholar, teacher, and former President of India. The tradition began in 1962 when Radhakrishnan suggested that his birthday should instead be observed as Teachers’ Day. In 2026, the occasion will also feature the National Teachers’ Awards, with 48 distinguished school teachers expected to receive recognition. India’s Teachers’ Day should not be confused with World Teachers’ Day, which is observed internationally on October 5.

National Wildlife Day 2026 will be observed on September 4, focusing attention on wildlife conservation, endangered species, and habitat preservation. The observance encourages people to understand the importance of birds, insects, mammals, and other forms of wildlife in maintaining healthy ecosystems. It was established in 2005 by animal behaviourist and philanthropist Colleen Paige. September 4 is associated with the observance in connection with wildlife conservationist Steve Irwin. Activities include learning about endangered species, avoiding littering, planting native plants, observing wildlife responsibly, watching nature documentaries, and supporting conservation organisations.

September 3 is observed annually as World Skyscraper Day, celebrating the engineering, architecture, and ambition behind the construction of the world’s tallest buildings. The date is associated with the birth date of Louis H. Sullivan, an influential pioneer of early skyscraper design. Modern supertall skyscrapers are generally defined by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) as buildings measuring at least 300 metres in height. These structures demonstrate advances in foundation systems, wind engineering, elevators, fire safety, and vertical transportation while often combining residential, commercial, hospitality, and entertainment facilities.

September 2 is observed as World Coconut Day, and in 2026 it will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 2. The day highlights the importance of coconut in agriculture, food production, trade, and the economy. It also recognises the livelihoods of communities involved in coconut cultivation and promotes sustainable agricultural practices. World Coconut Day was first celebrated in 2009 in association with the International Coconut Community (ICC), formerly known as the Asian and Pacific Coconut Community (APCC). The coconut is often called the “tree of life” because its water, meat, milk, oil, husk, shell, and leaves have numerous uses.
