South Africa hosted the ninth edition of the India-Brazil-South Africa Maritime Exercise (IBSAMAR IX) in Simon’s Town in October 2026. The ten-day exercise concluded on October 20, with the completion announced by India’s Ministry of Defence on October 21. The exercise involved the navies of India, Brazil and South Africa and included harbour and sea phases, professional exchanges and maritime training activities. India participated with INS Tarkash, a frontline guided-missile stealth frigate, accompanied by a Chetak helicopter. The exercise aimed to strengthen interoperability, improve operational cooperation and promote a shared commitment to secure and open seas.
