Seoul, South Korea, hosted the 27th World Knowledge Forum from September 8 to 10, 2026. The three-day international conference brought together political leaders, business executives, academics, entrepreneurs, and technology experts to discuss major global developments. The forum focused on artificial intelligence, co-intelligence, global economic changes, cybersecurity, innovation, and the future of human-machine collaboration. The 2026 edition was held at Jangchung Arena and The Shilla Seoul under the theme “The Promethean Moment: Architecting the Co-Intelligence Order.” The World Knowledge Forum is an annual conference in South Korea that addresses important issues related to world affairs, finance, technology, innovation, and public policy.

Meghalaya was the state visited by Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on September 7, 2026, for the inauguration and foundation-laying of several development projects. The projects had a combined investment of ₹1,010.95 crore and covered water supply, power infrastructure, road connectivity and healthcare. A major project was Phase II of the New Shillong Water Supply Scheme, allocated ₹850.58 crore under the Urban Challenge Fund. Other initiatives included a 132/33 KV substation at Mawkhanu, two road projects under NESIDS, a Maternity and Children’s Hospital at Nongstoin, and a 30-bed AYUSH facility at Shillong Civil Hospital.

Joheirry Mola Dominguez of the Dominican Republic won the 73rd Miss World 2026 pageant held in Vietnam. She was crowned on September 5, 2026, succeeding Opal Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand, the 72nd Miss World. Dominguez holds a degree in Business Management and Administration from Universidad Iberoamericana. She is also a professional model and serves as a Goya Gives Ambassador. Elisabeth Reynés of Spain was the first runner-up, while Taanusiya Chetty of Malaysia secured the second runner-up position. India was represented by Nikita Porwal of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, who had qualified after winning the Femina Miss India World 2024 title.

Chhattisgarh secured the first position in the third edition of the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari (JSJB) and Catch the Rain initiatives conducted by the Ministry of Jal Shakti. The state recorded 79,775 water conservation structures, of which 77,719 were successfully completed. Five districts—Surajpur, Mahasamund, Balod, Balodabazar-Bhatapara, and Kabirdham—also featured among the national top 10 districts for water conservation. The initiatives focus on constructing low-cost groundwater recharge and storage structures, reviving defunct borewells, and encouraging community participation in water management. JSJB was launched in September 2024 using a community-partnership model involving Panchayats and local institutions.

Kishor Makwana, Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), is set to receive the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Jan Seva Puraskar 2026. The award recognises the contribution of the NCSC towards social justice, protection of the constitutional and legal rights of Scheduled Castes, and public service. Prime Point Foundation and the Sansad Ratna Awards Jury nominated the NCSC for this honour. The award also acknowledges Makwana’s leadership and dedicated service during his tenure as Chairman. It is scheduled to be presented during the 16th Sansad Ratna Awards 2026 event in Delhi, highlighting the importance of equality, dignity, justice, and empowerment.

25 nations are included in the global 6G initiative joined by India. The initiative comprises the United States and 24 other countries, bringing the total participation to 25 nations. It aims to promote international cooperation in developing secure, competitive and innovative sixth-generation wireless communication technology. 6G is expected to improve upon 5G through faster data speeds, lower latency and enhanced connectivity for machines and intelligent systems. India’s participation provides an opportunity to contribute to discussions on global 6G standards, network security, technological innovation and competitiveness. The initiative also reflects India’s broader cooperation with international partners in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors and advanced telecommunications.

Isar Aerospace, a German aerospace manufacturer headquartered in Munich, successfully launched its Spectrum rocket from Andøya Spaceport in Norway. The launch marked a major milestone as Spectrum became the first privately developed European rocket to reach space by crossing the 100-kilometre altitude threshold in under four minutes. Spectrum is a two-stage orbital launch vehicle powered by 10 engines, measuring 28 metres in height and 2 metres in diameter. It can carry payloads of up to 1,000 kilograms to Low Earth Orbit. During the mission, the rocket deployed five CubeSats and also carried the “Let It Go” experiment developed by Dcubed.

IIT Madras incubated Bodhan AI, a Section 8 non-profit company focused on developing sovereign digital infrastructure for multilingual education in India. Bodhan AI launched four foundational AI models in partnership with AI4Bharat as open-weight digital public goods for the education ecosystem. These include Automatic Speech Recognition supporting 27 Indian languages, Optical Character Recognition and Text-to-Speech supporting 23 languages each, and Bodhan-Translate supporting 22 languages. The Bharat EduAI Stack is designed to provide a common foundational AI layer for India’s EdTech ecosystem. The initiative is supported and funded by the Union Ministry of Education and uses NVIDIA technologies for model training and deployment.

Fourth was the position secured by India at the Pickleball World Cup 2026 in Da Nang, Vietnam. India delivered its best-ever performance at the tournament, finishing fourth among 82 participating nations. The Indian contingent won a total of 41 medals, comprising seven gold, 17 silver and 17 bronze medals. This marked a significant improvement from India’s seventh-place finish in the previous World Cup. A total of 48 Indian players competed across Kids, Juniors, Open, Seniors and Masters categories. The Indian Pickleball Association viewed the achievement as an important step toward strengthening the sport and encouraging grassroots development in India.

The United Kingdom officially recognised India’s Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS) on September 8, 2026. This recognition is intended to help Indian exporters avoid double taxation under the UK’s upcoming Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), scheduled to begin on January 1, 2027. The mechanism will apply to carbon emissions embodied in imports such as aluminium, cement, fertiliser, hydrogen, iron and steel. British importers of Indian goods can seek carbon price relief based on the effective carbon price already paid under India’s CCTS. The CCTS operates under the Energy Conservation Act, 2001, with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) serving as its nodal implementation agency.
