A life-size bronze statue of Swami Vivekananda was unveiled at Westlake Square in Seattle on April 12, 2026. This marked a historic moment as it became the first instance of a US city government hosting such a monument dedicated to the Indian spiritual leader. The statue was sculpted by Indian artist Naresh Kumar Kumawat and gifted by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). The unveiling coincided with ICCR Day, highlighting efforts to strengthen cultural ties between India and the United States, while also honouring Vivekananda’s global influence and teachings.

The United Kingdom delayed the legislative process to transfer sovereignty of the Chagos Archipelago to Mauritius due to geopolitical concerns and lack of support from the United States. The proposed agreement included transferring full sovereignty while maintaining a 99-year lease of Diego Garcia for continued military use by the US and UK.
