Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), one of India’s premier shipbuilding companies, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Tamil Nadu to establish a greenfield shipyard. This collaboration is part of the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, which focuses on strengthening India’s maritime infrastructure and capabilities. The shipyard is expected to significantly enhance the country’s naval preparedness, shipbuilding capacity, and commercial maritime activities, thereby contributing to both defense and economic growth. Tamil Nadu was chosen due to its strategic location and potential for developing world-class maritime facilities.

The Karnataka government has introduced the Local Economy Accelerator Programme (LEAP) with an allocation of ₹1,000 crore to stimulate innovation and job creation across the state, especially in regions beyond Bengaluru. The initiative focuses on developing industrial and entrepreneurial clusters in Mysuru-Chamarajanagar, Mangaluru-Udupi, Hubbali-Belagavi-Dharwad, Tumkur, Kalaburagi, and Shivamogga. The programme will run for a duration of five years with a targeted goal of generating 5 lakh jobs. By decentralizing opportunities, Karnataka aims to strengthen regional economies, reduce overdependence on Bengaluru, and create a balanced ecosystem for sustainable growth.

The 28th National Conference on e-Governance was hosted in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on September 23, 2025, where the landmark declaration on India’s digital transformation was adopted. Organised by DARPG, MeitY, and the Government of Andhra Pradesh, the conference focused on the theme “Viksit Bharat: Civil Service and Digital Transformation.” The declaration emphasised the role of advanced technologies like AI, blockchain, IoT, and data analytics in governance, along with priorities such as cybersecurity, digital literacy, and inclusive growth. Visakhapatnam was also endorsed as a future IT and innovation hub, underlining its significance in India’s digital journey.

Vandana Gupta, a 1990 batch officer of the Indian Post & Telecommunication Accounts and Finance Service (IP&TAFS), officially took charge as the Controller General of Communication Accounts (CGCA) on September 22, 2025. With over three decades of experience, she has served in key telecom circles across Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat, along with critical roles in the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Department of Posts (DoP). Her career also includes senior positions at GASAB under the CAG, the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the National Commission for Women, and GGSIP University. Her appointment reflects her leadership in telecom finance, audits, and governance.

The 49th meeting of PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation) was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 24 September 2025. This ICT-enabled platform is a key governance tool developed by the Prime Minister’s Office to fast-track development projects, improve coordination between the Centre and States, and ensure timely delivery of public assets. In this meeting, eight major projects worth ₹65,000 crore across sectors such as mining, railways, water resources, industrial corridors, and power were reviewed. Modi emphasised timely execution, resolving bottlenecks, and adopting a result-oriented approach to accelerate India’s infrastructure growth.

World Pharmacists Day is celebrated annually on September 25 to recognise the vital role pharmacists play in healthcare, including public health and medication safety. The day was established by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) in 2009, commemorating FIP’s founding on September 25, 1912. Each year, a theme is chosen to highlight key aspects of pharmacy practice; for 2025, the theme is “Think Health, Think Pharmacist.” Observing this day emphasises pharmacists’ contribution to healthcare systems worldwide and encourages public awareness about their essential services in improving health outcomes.

World Food India 2025 is scheduled to be held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, from September 25–28. Organised by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, the event will showcase India’s role as a global leader in sustainable food systems. The summit will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will witness participation from partner countries such as New Zealand and Saudi Arabia, along with focus countries including Russia, UAE, Japan, and Vietnam. The Ministry of Labour and Employment signed an MoU with Zepto in September 2025 to enhance job opportunities and youth employability through the National Career Service (NCS) Portal. Under this partnership, Zepto will provide 10,000 urban job opportunities, particularly benefiting youth, women, and first-time job seekers. The initiative also focuses on improving employability by formalising gig workers, integrating them with the e-Shram portal, and linking them to social security benefits. This collaboration bridges the gap between informal and formal employment, creating structured opportunities in the gig economy while strengthening social protection and skill development pathways.

The UAE-India Business Council (UIBC) signed three important Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on 24 September 2025 to enhance bilateral trade and cooperation between India and the UAE. These agreements were made with the UAE-India CEPA Council (UICC), Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC), and multiple regional chambers of commerce. The focus is on implementing the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) more effectively by supporting priority sectors such as IT, healthcare, logistics, tourism, education, and engineering. The MoUs aim to foster institutional collaboration, facilitate grassroots CEPA execution, and enable MSMEs and startups to benefit from UAE’s global trade networks.

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) entered into a strategic MoU with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering to strengthen India’s maritime sector. As part of this collaboration, CSL is investing ₹3,700 crore in a Block Fabrication Facility (BFF) in Kochi, which will support the construction of large commercial vessels and create around 2,000 direct jobs. Additionally, CSL plans to establish a ₹15,000 crore shipyard in Tamil Nadu, expected to generate 10,000 jobs. These initiatives not only boost India’s shipbuilding capacity but also align with the nation’s long-term vision of becoming a global maritime hub.
