Piyush Goyal, a 1994 batch IAS officer from the Nagaland cadre, has been appointed as the new Mines Secretary. He took charge after V.L. Kantha Rao and brings with him rich administrative experience, having previously served as the CEO of NATGRID. His leadership comes at a pivotal moment when India is emphasizing the development of critical minerals such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, and rare earths. These resources are central to supporting India’s clean energy transition, ensuring greater self-reliance in strategic sectors, and helping the country progress toward its ambitious net-zero emission targets.

India’s first port-based Green Hydrogen Pilot Project was inaugurated at VOC Port in Tamil Nadu by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The project is part of a broader initiative worth over ₹150 crore that also includes a Green Methanol bunkering facility, solar and wind energy projects, development of a multi-cargo berth, improved road infrastructure, and a maritime heritage museum. UIDAI achieved a record milestone by registering 221 crore Aadhaar authentications in August 2025, marking a 10.3% growth compared to the same period in 2024. This surge reflects India’s increasing reliance on digital identity verification for various services. A significant highlight was face authentication, which rose sharply to 18.6 crore in August 2025 from 6.04 crore in August 2024, bringing the cumulative total of face-based transactions to over 213 crore. More than 150 entities now utilise AI-driven face authentication, offering secure and convenient service delivery across multiple sectors, thereby strengthening India’s digital transformation journey.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a major welfare measure by extending cashless medical treatment facilities to teachers across the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong virtually inaugurated the PSA Mumbai Terminal Phase-II at Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPA) on September 4, 2025. This expansion has raised the terminal’s capacity to 4.8 million TEUs, officially making it the largest container terminal in India. Operated by Singapore-based PSA International, the facility is equipped with state-of-the-art cranes, automated systems, and a direct rail link to the Dedicated Freight Corridor. The project not only enhances India’s maritime infrastructure but also strengthens India-Singapore economic cooperation. It will significantly reduce logistics costs, improve cargo efficiency, and boost India’s competitiveness in global trade.

The ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 is scheduled to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka from September 30 to November 2, 2025. Matches will be played across five venues, with Pakistan’s fixtures specifically set to take place in Colombo. Adani Power has partnered with Druk Green Power Corporation to establish a 570MW hydroelectric project in Bhutan with a massive investment of Rs 6,000 crore. The project will be developed under the BOOT (Build, Own, Operate, Transfer) model, ensuring long-term sustainability and infrastructure development in the region. The agreements, including a power purchase agreement and concession agreement, were signed in the presence of Bhutan’s Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay and Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani. Justice Shree Chandrashekhar has been sworn in as the new Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court. The oath was administered by Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. Before this elevation, he had been serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court and had also held the role of Acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. His appointment reflects his significant judicial experience and contributions. As Chief Justice, he is expected to bring stability and guidance to one of India’s most prominent High Courts, playing a crucial role in upholding justice and strengthening the legal system.
