Critical Hydraulic gradient = (G-1)/(1+e).

Where,

e - Void ratio.
G - Specific gravity of soil.

Critical hydraulic gradient = (G-1)/(1+e).

= (2.75-1)/(1+0.75).

= 1.00.

Hydraulic Gradient (Id) = (G-1)/(1+e).

= (2.75-1) / (1+0.75).

= 1.

Already they said critical gradient for critical hydraulic gradient is 1. no need of calculation.

Quick sand condition occurs in fine sand and silt.

Critical hydraulic gradient (i) = G-1/1+e.

i = 2.5-1/1+0.75.

= 1.0.

@Laxman.

Yes, you are right critical hydraulic gradient is always 1.

We know that,

The critical hydraulic gradient = (G-1)/(1+e) = (2.75-1)/(1+0.75) = 1.

The hydraulic head that would produce a quick sand condition in a sand stratum of Thickness 1.5 m, specific gravity 2.67 and voids ratio 0.67 is equal to;

(a) 1.0 m
(b) 1.5 m
(c) 2.0 m
(d) 3.0 m

Please explain it with the answer.
