I don't think Olefin will be the right answer. In NHDT (Naptha Hydrotreater) diolefins are converted to olefins 1st and then olefins are transformed into straight-chain paraffin. It is then going to Isomerisation process. So, there are a lot of olefins in crude and it produces gum also.

Hi, please explain for me why mercaptans almost absent in crude oil. I think that crude oil contains rarely olefins. Because gas, naphtha, and kerosene which straight-run from crude distillation tower always be treated mercaptans.

Mercaptan is correct as olefin which seems to be the correct answer is absent and not almost absent.

We know that alkenes are mostly not present in crude petroleum. And olefin is a type of alkene. So the right answer is A, not B.

Yes you both guys are right and olefins are form in refinery process only it means olefins are absent in crude oil.

Agree with you. It should be olefins because olefins are very easy to transform to oxidation compounds.

Mercaptans are found especially as impurity in crude oil distillation, so why mercaptans absent?
