Hi, please explain for me why mercaptans almost absent in crude oil. I think that crude oil contains rarely olefins. Because gas, naphtha, and kerosene which straight-run from crude distillation tower always be treated mercaptans.

Agree with you. It should be olefins because olefins are very easy to transform to oxidation compounds.

Yes you both guys are right and olefins are form in refinery process only it means olefins are absent in crude oil.

Ya correct Olefins are formed during cracking only.

Hi,

I am agreed from both of you, the correct answer is Olefins.

Mercaptans are found especially as impurity in crude oil distillation, so why mercaptans absent?

Yes, I also agree because olefins are intermitted product during cracking process.
