6.
If 6 men and 8 boys can do a piece of work in 10 days while 26 men and 48 boys can do the same in 2 days, the time taken by 15 men and 20 boys in doing the same type of work will be:
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let 1 man's 1 day's work = x and 1 boy's 1 day's work = y.
| Then, 6x + 8y = | 1 | and 26x + 48y = | 1 | . |
| 10 | 2 |
| Solving these two equations, we get : x = | 1 | and y = | 1 | . |
| 100 | 200 |
| (15 men + 20 boy)'s 1 day's work = | ![]() |
15 | + | 20 | ![]() |
= | 1 | . |
| 100 | 200 | 4 |
15 men and 20 boys can do the work in 4 days.

(6m+8b)*10=(26m+48b)*2=(15m+20b)*x.
60m+80b=52m+96b.
m/b=2/1.
(26*2+48*1)*2=(15*2+20*1)*x.
(52+48)*2=(30+20)*x.
200/50=X.
X = 4days.
60m+80b=52m+96b.
m/b=2/1.
(26*2+48*1)*2=(15*2+20*1)*x.
(52+48)*2=(30+20)*x.
200/50=X.
X = 4days.

There must be a faster way of doing this mentally. Like skipping the equation part. Some kind of approximation. Does anyone know?

Hi @Meera,
If we multiply equation(1) by 6 we will get:
6x+8y = 1/10 ---> 36x+48y = 3/5.
My question is how it comes 3/5?

Then apply x value into 1st equation
6x+8y=1/10
6*1/10+8y=1/10
8y=4/100
y=1/200
How comes 4/100 please explain?
6x+8y=1/10
6*1/10+8y=1/10
8y=4/100
y=1/200
How comes 4/100 please explain?

Why are we taking days in x/y form?
Can we solve by 6x+8y=10 doing this if not then why, please help me out?

6*1/100 + 8y =1/10
6/100 + 8y = 1/10
8y = (1/10) - (6/100)
on taking lcm =100
8y = (10 -6)/100
8y = 4/100
6/100 + 8y = 1/10
8y = (1/10) - (6/100)
on taking lcm =100
8y = (10 -6)/100
8y = 4/100

2x+3y = 1/10 ----- (1).
3x+2y = 1/8 ------ (2).
We want to find: 2x+1y = ?---- (3).
Any one can solve this.

Apply the value of x = 1/100 in Eqn 1, we get,
6/100+8y = 1/10.
Take LCM you will get the answer y = 1/200.
6/100+8y = 1/10.
Take LCM you will get the answer y = 1/200.

6x+8y = 1/10----------(1)
Taking 2 common on LHS
3x+4y = 1/20,
Multiply it by 5 on both side,
15x+20y = 4.
