In a flight of 600 km, an aircraft was slowed down due to bad weather. Its average speed for the trip was reduced by 200 km/hr and the time of flight increased by 30 minutes. The duration of the flight is:
1 hour
2 hours
3 hours
4 hours
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let the duration of the flight be x hours.

Then, 600 - 600 = 200
x x + (1/2)

600 - 1200 = 200
x 2x + 1

x(2x + 1) = 3

2x2 + x - 3 = 0

(2x + 3)(x - 1) = 0

x = 1 hr.      [neglecting the -ve value of x]

Why 600/x-600/x+1/2 not 600/x+1/2-600/x?

Please clear the concept. I can't understand.

@Mallikarjun.

Why it can't be like?

400 km. > 30 min.

600 km. > ?

Why are you taking 200? 200 is the speed reduced?

So shouldn't you subtract from 600 and take it as 400.

Please explain how 200 will come?

Simple method.

200 km......> 30 min (30/60 h).

Then 600......> ?

Therefore 600*30/60 = x*200.

x = 60 min.

1/2 up --> 1/3 down. Therefore, 200 = 1/3 and 1 = 600.

Can any one explain how 200 will come?

I agree to @Deepak Jain's word and yes bad weather has it be considered and as tony mentioned 400 is the speed.

Its just simple as much as 1.5 hours.

= x-(x+1/2) it simplify as,
= x-2x+1 = 0.
= -x+1 = 0.
x = 1.
