In covering a distance of 30 km, Abhay takes 2 hours more than Sameer. If Abhay doubles his speed, then he would take 1 hour less than Sameer. Abhay's speed is:
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let Abhay's speed be x km/hr.
Then, | 30 | - | 30 | = 3 |
x | 2x |
6x = 30
x = 5 km/hr.

can u tell me any one ...why the values (30/x)-(30/2x)=(ts+2)-(ts-1) are subtracting?
i.e., between (30/x) and (30/2x)
i.e., between (30/x) and (30/2x)

Guys it could be like this also....
Abhay speed =x
sameer speed=y
(30/x)- (30/y)= 2 ....eq-1
-(30/2x)+(30/y)= 1 ...eq-2
Solving 1 and 2 we get => 6x=30 so x=5 answer.
Abhay speed =x
sameer speed=y
(30/x)- (30/y)= 2 ....eq-1
-(30/2x)+(30/y)= 1 ...eq-2
Solving 1 and 2 we get => 6x=30 so x=5 answer.

Time in first case= 30/x(30 is distance and x is speed)
Time in second case=30/2x(30 is distance and speed is doubled)
Total difference in time is 3 hrs(2 hrs slow and one hour fast)
(30/x)-(30/2x)=3
Solve and you get 5km/hr.
Time in second case=30/2x(30 is distance and speed is doubled)
Total difference in time is 3 hrs(2 hrs slow and one hour fast)
(30/x)-(30/2x)=3
Solve and you get 5km/hr.

Let Abhay's speed be x km/hr
and sameer's speed be y km/hr
Abhay takes 2 hours more than Sameer
i.e (30/x)-(30/y)=2 ........ I
Abhay doubles his speed, i.e his speed becomes 2x
then he would take 1 hour less than Sameer
i.e (30/y)-(30/2x)=1......... II
ADD I and II
you will get
(30/x)-(30/2x)=3.......... III
solve III you will get x=5 km/h
and sameer's speed be y km/hr
Abhay takes 2 hours more than Sameer
i.e (30/x)-(30/y)=2 ........ I
Abhay doubles his speed, i.e his speed becomes 2x
then he would take 1 hour less than Sameer
i.e (30/y)-(30/2x)=1......... II
ADD I and II
you will get
(30/x)-(30/2x)=3.......... III
solve III you will get x=5 km/h

Reason for subtracting: Then only you're getting the difference in time of both.
