In covering a distance of 30 km, Abhay takes 2 hours more than Sameer. If Abhay doubles his speed, then he would take 1 hour less than Sameer. Abhay's speed is:
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let Abhay's speed be x km/hr.
Then, | 30 | - | 30 | = 3 |
x | 2x |
6x = 30

Abhay takes 2 times more than Sameer
2x = x.
If Sameer doubles his speed, he would take less than 1hour of Sameer
2 * 2x = 1 - x,
4x = 1 - x,
4x + x = 1,
5x = 1,
x = 1 ÷ 5.
According to question, speed is 1 ÷ 5 is 5.
2x = x.

30/x - 30/2x = 3.
30/x - 15/x = 3.
15/x = 3.
15/3 = x.
5 = x.
30/x - 15/x = 3.
15/x = 3.
15/3 = x.
5 = x.

If it is asked about Sameer's speed then what would be the answer?

Abhay takes 2 hours and if doubles her speed he takes 1 hour less than Sameer so,
2 - (-1) = 3.
2 - (-1) = 3.

Let time taken by Sameer be "t".
First case: when the time taken by Sameer is "t", time taken by Abhay is "t + 2".
Let the speed of Abhay be "s".
Second case: when the speed of Abhay is "2s" time taken by him is "t - 1".
Now from case one and case two, it can be said as,
S = 30/(x + 2) -----> equation (1).
2s = 30/(x - 1) -----> equation (2).
Now substitute "s" value in equation (2).
Thus we get the value of t = 4 hours.
Now Speed of Abhay = 30/(x + 2) = 30/(4 + 2) = 30/6 = 5 hours.

If the distance is same then,
Sameer's speed = 30/4.
= 7.5 km/hr.
Sameer's speed = 30/4.
= 7.5 km/hr.
