14.
A farmer travelled a distance of 61 km in 9 hours. He travelled partly on foot @ 4 km/hr and partly on bicycle @ 9 km/hr. The distance travelled on foot is:
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let the distance travelled on foot be x km.
Then, distance travelled on bicycle = (61 -x) km.
So, | x | + | (61 -x) | = 9 |
4 | 9 |
9x + 4(61 -x) = 9 x 36
5x = 80
x = 16 km.

Then, 2(4)(9)/4+9=4.
How it's please explain? We get 5.53.

Please someone tell why the answer is not coming by allegation? I used foot on left 4 9.
6.7.
2.3 2.7.
= 61*23/27?
Why can't we solve like this?

@Dhivagar.
What if I take 5 hr for bicycle and 4 hr for foot. The answer will be 20 right?

Hi, its simple,
Total distance = 61 km.
Time taken = 9 hr.
Speed by foot = 4 km/hr.
Speed by bicycle = 9 km/hr.
So split the total hours into 2 parts like 4 hr + 5 hr = 9 hrs.
Multiply it with the speed by foot and bicycle like.
4 hr*4 km/hr = 16 km.
5 hr*9 km/hr = 45 km.
Add 16 + 45 = 61 km (total distance covered).
They asked distance covered by foot. So answer is 16. :).

Total distance =61 km.
Let distance travelled by foot = x.
Let distance travelled by bicycle = y.
So, x+y = 61.
Also from above equation.
y = 61-x.
Let distance travelled by foot = x.
Let distance travelled by bicycle = y.
So, x+y = 61.
Also from above equation.
y = 61-x.

We can solve using avg method 2xy/x+y.
Let,
x=4.
y=9.
Then,
2(4)(9)/4+9=4.
Distance traveled on foot is 4 km/h.
So,
4*4=16.
Let,
x=4.
y=9.
Then,
2(4)(9)/4+9=4.
Distance traveled on foot is 4 km/h.
So,
4*4=16.

Well I have gotta doubt.
The equation which I made is (61-x)/4 + x/9 = 9.
And the answers which I am getting is 41 km/hr and 20 km/hr.
PLEASE HELP.

Simplest way is by grandmaster is:
Lets take % first: 4/9*100.
44.444444%.
Total time travelled: 540 mins.
44.444444% of 540 = 240 mins = 4 hrs.
Distance = 4*4 = 16 hrs.
Lets take % first: 4/9*100.
44.444444%.
Total time travelled: 540 mins.
44.444444% of 540 = 240 mins = 4 hrs.
Distance = 4*4 = 16 hrs.
