Aptitude - Time and Distance - Discussion

Discussion Forum : Time and Distance - General Questions (Q.No. 1)
1.
A person crosses a 600 m long street in 5 minutes. What is his speed in km per hour?
3.6
7.2
8.4
10
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Speed = 600 m/sec.
5 x 60

   = 2 m/sec.

Converting m/sec to km/hr (see important formulas section)

   = 2 x 18 km/hr
5

   = 7.2 km/hr.

The easiest way for solving this question is;

Divide distance by time: 600/5 = 120.
Then multiply 120 x 60 = 7200.
Then divide 7200 with 1000 meter = 7.2.

600/5 = 120.
120m per minute.
120 * 60min = 7200m.
1000m = 1 km.
7200/1000 = 7.2km per hour.

Time = 5 min.
Distance = 600 meter.

Distance = 600/5 = 120m in one minute.
In hour = 120x60 = 7200m in one hour.
1km = 1000m.
7200m = 7.2m=>answer.

Distance = 600m = 600/1000 km
= 0.6 km.

Time = 5mint = 5/60 hr = 1/12 hr.
Speed = Distance/time.
= (0.6)/1/12.
= 0.6×12.
=7.2

Speed = Distance/Time.
600m Distance.

Time 5 Minute = 300 Seconds.
We need speed km/hr, it means 18/5.
600/300*18/5 = 36/5.
Ans = 7.2.

We know,

1 min = 60 sec.
5 min = 60 * 5 = 300 sec.
A/c to question;

Distance = 600 m.
Time = 300 Sec.
Now speed = Distance/ Time = 600/ 300 = 2 m/s.
Converting km to meter, multiply with 18/5.
Now, 2*18/5 = 36/5 = 7.2 km/hr.

S = d/t.
600m = 0.6km.
5minutes = 5/60 = 0.083hr,
S = 0.6/0.083,
= 7.2km/hr.

Distance= 600m
= 0.6km
Time = 5mins.
=5/60hrs.
Speed = D/T.
= 0.6/0.08333.
= 7.2km/hr.
So, Speed = 7.2km/hr.
