In a regular week, there are 5 working days and for each day, the working hours are 8. A man gets Rs. 2.40 per hour for regular work and Rs. 3.20 per hours for overtime. If he earns Rs. 432 in 4 weeks, then how many hours does he work for ?
160
175
180
195
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Suppose the man works overtime for x hours.

Now, working hours in 4 weeks = (5 x 8 x 4) = 160.

160 x 2.40 + x x 3.20 = 432

3.20x = 432 - 384 = 48

x = 15.

Hence, total hours of work = (160 + 15) = 175.

Regular hours=8hr/day *20 days=160 hours
so2.40*160=384(so regular hours he worked is 160 hours)

Remaining amount he earned is Rs.48.
so overtime earning per hour is Rs.3.20
Therefore overtime working hours is Rs.48/3.20= 15 hours
Therefore Total worked hours of a man is 160+15=175 hours

20 days =5 days per week*4 weeks

But it is never mentioned that the man has worked all his regular working hours right? So how can we assume 160*2.40 ?

The total working days =Total working hours in a week * 4 weeks
= 5 * 4 * 8 = 160 hours
Total wage for 160 hours = 160 * 2.4 = 384 Rs.
Given income - total income = 432 - 384 = 48
wage / hour during overtime => 3.2 Rs.
48/3.2 = 480/32 = 60/4 = 15
So in all he worked 25 hours overtime and 160 hours
Therefore,
1 6 0
+ 1 5
------
1 7 5
Therefore the total hours = 175 hours.

Total days=7
Present days=5
Work hours=5

Regular hours=8hr/day *20 days=160 hours

So 2.40*160=384(so regular hours he worked is 160 hours)

Remaining amount he earned is Rs.48.

So overtime earning per hour is Rs. 3.20

Overtime working hours is Rs.48/3.20= 15 hours.

Total worked hours of a man is 160+15=175 hours.

Now, working hours in 4 weeks = (5 x 8 x 4) = 160.

= 160*2.40 = 384-432 = 48/3.20 = 15.
= 160+15.
= 175.

As @Kachani said it was never mentioned like he worked on all his working hours. Suppose if he was off for one day and worked 16 hours next day (regular 8 hour shift and 8 hours overtime)?

Ashish said:   1 decade ago
It is not mentioned that that 432 is including overtime.
