In a mixture 60 litres, the ratio of milk and water 2 : 1. If this ratio is to be 1 : 2, then the quantity of water to be further added is:
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Quantity of milk = | ![]() |
60 x | 2 | ![]() |
3 |
Quantity of water in it = (60- 40) litres = 20 litres.
New ratio = 1 : 2
Let quantity of water to be added further be x litres.
Then, milk : water = | ![]() |
40 | ![]() |
. |
20 + x |
Now, | ![]() |
40 | ![]() |
= | 1 |
20 + x | 2 |
20 + x = 80
x = 60.
Quantity of water to be added = 60 litres.

In 2:1 ratio milk +water=40 + 20 = 60 then,
In 1:2 ratio milk+water=20 + 40 = 60 now only total of water from both ratio is 60.
In 1:2 ratio milk+water=20 + 40 = 60 now only total of water from both ratio is 60.

2:1 = 2 * 60 : 1 * 60,
= 120 : 60.
For 1:2 reverse it, so answer for new proportion is 60.
= 120 : 60.
For 1:2 reverse it, so answer for new proportion is 60.

60litres mixture ratio 2:1 then 40:20.
In the question, water is added to the mixture so milk quantity doesn't change.
New ratio 1:2 milk same i.e 40 then 2*40= 80 (water ratio 2) old is 40:20 new is 40:80 (80-20)= 60ans.

The ratio is 2:1 the total mixture =60 litres let the amount of milk be 2x and amount of water be x so 2x+x =60 litres that is x=20 litres the amount milk is 40 litres.
If it is halved in the next ratio then the amount of water should be 2*40-20 = 60 litres.
If it is halved in the next ratio then the amount of water should be 2*40-20 = 60 litres.

For water calculation of 1st ratio.
Water: 60 * 1/3=20 lit
For second ratio the water ratio will be 2/3
So water to be added: [20+(2/3) * 60]=60 lit.
That's the answer is 'D.

Actually, I think we don't need to find the solution for this question so hard.
It says 2:1=60.
So, if its interchange to 1:2 answer is also 60 ltr since the two products do not change changed.
