In a mixture 60 litres, the ratio of milk and water 2 : 1. If this ratio is to be 1 : 2, then the quantity of water to be further added is:
20 litres
30 litres
40 litres
60 litres
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Quantity of milk = 60 x 2 litres = 40 litres.
3

Quantity of water in it = (60- 40) litres = 20 litres.

New ratio = 1 : 2

Let quantity of water to be added further be x litres.

Then, milk : water = 40 .
20 + x

Now, 40 = 1
20 + x 2

20 + x = 80

x = 60.

Quantity of water to be added = 60 litres.

2:1 = 2 * 60 : 1 * 60,
= 120 : 60.
For 1:2 reverse it, so answer for new proportion is 60.

@Sai

5x/(1x+5)=5/2
10x=5x+25
5x=25

I think 25 litres is the correct ans what do u say guys ?

Old: 2:1 mix = 60.

New: (1:2)*2 = 2:4.

Water added = (1*60)/4-1 = 20.

New mix = 20+40 = 60.

Very simple in inverted method says.

a : b = b : a.

i.e a/b = b/a so, answer is 60 the same.

60 litres milk: water
2:1 then,
2x + x = 60
x = 20
1 : 2 ?
x + 2x = ?
3x = ?
3 * 20 = 60.

So the ratio using;
n = a + b/c + d.
2 + 1/1 + 2 = 1.
Q = 1
Therefore,
1*60 = 60litres.

You can apply 4th std formula:

Ratio:

2/1.
1/2.

Liter:

60.
(?).

Then 1/2x60x2/1 = 60.

By Using the relation,

X(ad-bc)/c(a+b)

We get,
= 60(2×2-1×1)/1(2+1),
= 60(4-1)/3,
= 60.

How can we assume that the second ratio (1:2) given in the problem for next 60 liters ?

If total Quantity is 60 litres then how will you add quantity of water 60 litres again?
