In a bag, there are coins of 25 p, 10 p and 5 p in the ratio of 1 : 2 : 3. If there is Rs. 30 in all, how many 5 p coins are there?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let the number of 25 p, 10 p and 5 p coins be x, 2x, 3x respectively.
| Then, sum of their values = Rs. | ![]() |
25x | + | 10 x 2x | + | 5 x 3x | ![]() |
= Rs. | 60x |
| 100 | 100 | 100 | 100 |
![]() |
60x | = 30 | x = |
30 x 100 | = 50. |
| 100 | 60 |
Hence, the number of 5 p coins = (3 x 50) = 150.

25:10:5= cancel by 5 you get 5:2:1.
Add 5+2+1=8 and add all the coins 25+10+5=40.
40/8=5.
5*30(30p given) =150.
Add 5+2+1=8 and add all the coins 25+10+5=40.
40/8=5.
5*30(30p given) =150.

Why they are equated to 30?
In problem, it is given that 30 rs in all, hence it would be equated to 90, right?

The easiest way is to convert 30 to paisa i.e 3000p.
Now no of 5p coin is( 3/1+2+3)*3000,
=3/6*3000=150.
Now no of 5p coin is( 3/1+2+3)*3000,
=3/6*3000=150.

Given ratios 1 : 2 : 3.
Therefore 3/6 * 300p = 150,
Here 6 we get by adding all ratios i.e( 1 + 2 + 3).
Therefore 3/6 * 300p = 150,
Here 6 we get by adding all ratios i.e( 1 + 2 + 3).

5 paisa coin ratio value is 3.
So the answer must be multiple of 3 first try to check its multiple.

@Kkp.
x is the multiplying factor which when multiplied by 60 and divided by 100 gives you Rs 30.

@Yhtsawakeviv.
Can you explain why 3 is multiplied here?
i.e No of 5p coins = 3x = 3*50 = 150.
Can you explain why 3 is multiplied here?
i.e No of 5p coins = 3x = 3*50 = 150.

Ratio of 5p = 3,
Sum of ratio = 1 + 2 + 3 = 6.
Convert Rs.30 to paise = 300p,
(3/6) * 300 = 150.
Sum of ratio = 1 + 2 + 3 = 6.
Convert Rs.30 to paise = 300p,
(3/6) * 300 = 150.

Let apply proportion 1 : 2 : 3.
25p : 10p : 5p,
Rs 30 = 300 p,
3/6 * 300 = 50 * 3 = 150.
25p : 10p : 5p,
Rs 30 = 300 p,
3/6 * 300 = 50 * 3 = 150.
