In a bag, there are coins of 25 p, 10 p and 5 p in the ratio of 1 : 2 : 3. If there is Rs. 30 in all, how many 5 p coins are there?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let the number of 25 p, 10 p and 5 p coins be x, 2x, 3x respectively.
Then, sum of their values = Rs. | ![]() |
25x | + | 10 x 2x | + | 5 x 3x | ![]() |
= Rs. | 60x |
100 | 100 | 100 | 100 |
![]() |
60x | = 30 | ![]() |
30 x 100 | = 50. |
100 | 60 |
Hence, the number of 5 p coins = (3 x 50) = 150.

25p : 10p : 5p = 1 : 2 : 3 = Rs.30.
1rs = 4 * 25p (or) 25p = 1/4.
Similarly, 10p = 1/10 and 5p = 1/20.
x/4 + 2x/10 + 3x/20 = 30.
x = 50
Answer:
25p = 50.
10p = 100.
5p = 150.
1rs = 4 * 25p (or) 25p = 1/4.
Similarly, 10p = 1/10 and 5p = 1/20.
x/4 + 2x/10 + 3x/20 = 30.
x = 50
Answer:
25p = 50.
10p = 100.
5p = 150.

Could you explain why we do not take the sum of ratios in the denominator i.e. (25x/100 + 20x/100 + 15x/100)/6 ?
Because in some problems they have considered the values like 150*2 + 25*2 and then have divided by sum of ratios i.e 4. Please clarify it.

Please answer this question.
A box contains Rs. 56 in the form of coins of one Rupees, 50P & 25P. The number of 50P coins is double of 50P coins is double the number of 25P coins & four times the number Of one rupee coins. How many 50P coins are there in the box?

Let apply proportion 1 : 2 : 3.
25p : 10p : 5p,
Rs 30 = 300 p,
3/6 * 300 = 50 * 3 = 150.
25p : 10p : 5p,
Rs 30 = 300 p,
3/6 * 300 = 50 * 3 = 150.

There are 2 possible answers for this question.
The answer already presented by most over here, where there are 150 5p coins.
And
20 25p coins, 100 10p coins & 300 5p coins. This solution can be validated by adding the total value of all these coins.
The method is as explained by Nithyanantham.

Solution :-
25ps 10ps 5ps
1 : 2 : 3
--------------------
Multiply and convert to rupees.
25 * 1 : 10 * 2 : 5 * 3,
25 : 20. : 15.
Sum of rupees 60 paisa,
Then find 5 paisa cine there.
Qty * find/given
30 * 5 / .60 = 150.
25ps 10ps 5ps
1 : 2 : 3

To convert them into rupees.
You can either convert rupee to paise or paise rupee to make them in the same unit.
Here, an interesting fact is that. From the given option the only divisible by 3 is 150. So without calculating also we can answer the question in quick time.
