In a bag, there are coins of 25 p, 10 p and 5 p in the ratio of 1 : 2 : 3. If there is Rs. 30 in all, how many 5 p coins are there?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let the number of 25 p, 10 p and 5 p coins be x, 2x, 3x respectively.
Then, sum of their values = Rs. | ![]() |
25x | + | 10 x 2x | + | 5 x 3x | ![]() |
= Rs. | 60x |
100 | 100 | 100 | 100 |
![]() |
60x | = 30 | ![]() |
30 x 100 | = 50. |
100 | 60 |
Hence, the number of 5 p coins = (3 x 50) = 150.

First convert 30rs to paise , ie 3000p.
Now, 25p:10p:5p = 1:2:3.
And given that, their sum is 3000p.
So, 25x + 10(2x) + 5(3x) = 3000 paise
60x = 3000
x=50.
So the value of 5p is 5*3*50 = 750.
But they asked No. Of 5p coins so, -> 750/5 = 150.
Now, 25p:10p:5p = 1:2:3.
And given that, their sum is 3000p.
So, 25x + 10(2x) + 5(3x) = 3000 paise
60x = 3000
x=50.
So the value of 5p is 5*3*50 = 750.
But they asked No. Of 5p coins so, -> 750/5 = 150.

@HABIB
u must recheck your calculations...
As 25p*50= Rs.12.5
10p*100= Rs.10
5p*150= Rs.7.5
AND they all make Rs. 30......

@depanshu shortcut is correct and it is the shortest method
Totally we have Rs.30 = 3000p.
25p,10p, 5p are in ratio of 1:2:3 (given).
We can also write it as
No. of coins of 25p = x
No. of coins of 10p = 2x
No. of coins of 5p = 3x
Then,
25(x)+10(2x)+5(3x)= 3000
We will find x = 50.
No. of coins of 5p = 3*50 = 150.

Then,
25(x)+10(2x)+5(3x)= 3000
We will find x = 50.
No. of coins of 5p = 3*50 = 150.

Shortcut:
Let us assume that there is only 25 paise coin, which implies there are 2 10 paise coins, 3 5 paise coins.
The total value adds upto:
1*25+2*10+3*5 = 60 paise.
But total we have 3000 paise.
So 3000/60 = 50.
So multiplying 50*3 we get 150 coins of 10 paise.

25 paisa=1/4 rupee.
10 paisa=1/10 rupee.
5 paisa=1/20 rupee.
Assume that;
x/4:2x/10:3x/20.
then simplify ratio.
5x:4x:3x.
Then;
5x+4x+3x=30.
x=30/12;
So 3x rupees means
(30/12)*3=7.5;
and 5 paisa means
7.5*20=150.
10 paisa=1/10 rupee.
5 paisa=1/20 rupee.
Assume that;
x/4:2x/10:3x/20.
then simplify ratio.
5x:4x:3x.
Then;
5x+4x+3x=30.
x=30/12;
So 3x rupees means
(30/12)*3=7.5;
and 5 paisa means
7.5*20=150.

1 Rs = 100 praise
25p,10p,5p.
Ratio = 1:2:3.
Then 25*x + 10*2x + 5*3x = 30*100.
25x + 20x + 15x = 3000.
60x = 3000.
X = 3000/60.
X = 50.
25p,10p,5p.
Ratio = 1:2:3.
Then 25*x + 10*2x + 5*3x = 30*100.
25x + 20x + 15x = 3000.
60x = 3000.
X = 3000/60.
X = 50.

Let 30rs = 300p.
So 1x+2x+3x = 300.
x = 50.
So 1x:2x:3x = 50:100:150.
Ans is 150.
So 1x+2x+3x = 300.
x = 50.
So 1x:2x:3x = 50:100:150.
Ans is 150.

Ratio in amount in paisa 25:20:15.
No.of 5 paisa coins = (15x3000)/(60x5).
= 150 coins.
No.of 5 paisa coins = (15x3000)/(60x5).
= 150 coins.
