In a bag, there are coins of 25 p, 10 p and 5 p in the ratio of 1 : 2 : 3. If there is Rs. 30 in all, how many 5 p coins are there?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let the number of 25 p, 10 p and 5 p coins be x, 2x, 3x respectively.
Then, sum of their values = Rs. | ![]() |
25x | + | 10 x 2x | + | 5 x 3x | ![]() |
= Rs. | 60x |
100 | 100 | 100 | 100 |
![]() |
60x | = 30 | ![]() |
30 x 100 | = 50. |
100 | 60 |
Hence, the number of 5 p coins = (3 x 50) = 150.

25p 10p 5p
1 : 2 : 3
If 25p*1=25p
10p*2=20p
5p*3=15p.
60p --> 30
1 --> 30/0.60p=50 piece,
So, 3---------50*3 = 150pieces.
1 : 2 : 3
If 25p*1=25p
10p*2=20p
5p*3=15p.
60p --> 30
1 --> 30/0.60p=50 piece,
So, 3---------50*3 = 150pieces.

The coins are 25p, 10p, 5p.
So ratio of value among these coins is 25:10:5 = 5:2:1
The ratio of coins in the bag is 1:2:3,
Multiply both ratios.
1:2:3
5:2:1
= 5:4:3.
5p coins are = 3/12 * 30 = 7.5 rupees.
For 1 rupee 20 5p coins, then for 7.5 rupees 5p coins = 7.5*20=150.

The easiest way is to convert 30 to paisa i.e 3000p.
Now no of 5p coin is( 3/1+2+3)*3000,
=3/6*3000=150.
Now no of 5p coin is( 3/1+2+3)*3000,
=3/6*3000=150.

Thanks @Divyanshu your method is very easy.
But if you find the values for other 10 paise and 25 paise, the total amount Rs. 30 (given in the problem) is not matched with the final answer. Anyone can clear my doubt?
How to find the values for 10 paise and 25 paise? Please tell me.

1 Rupee = 100 paise
30Rs = 3000 paise.
25p : 10p : 5p = 1 : 2 : 3,
25*X + 10*2X + 5*3X = 3000,
60X = 3000,
X = 50,
25*50 = 1250,
10*2*50 = 1000,
5*3*50 = 750.
30Rs = 3000 paise.
25p : 10p : 5p = 1 : 2 : 3,
25*X + 10*2X + 5*3X = 3000,
60X = 3000,
X = 50,
25*50 = 1250,
10*2*50 = 1000,
5*3*50 = 750.

1x+2x+3x = 30.
6x = 30,
x=5.
Let;
1) 25 paise =Rs 1x5 =5 and No. Of coins = 5 * 4=20coins.
2) 10 paise =Rs 2x = 2 * 5 =Rs10 and no.of coins equal to 10 * 10 = 100 coins,
3) 5 paise= Rs 3x= 3x5=Rs15 and of coins =20 * 15= 300 coins.
6x = 30,
x=5.

@All.
According to me, the solution is;
Rs.30 = 3000p (30X100=3000).
1:2:3 = 3000.
so to find out the number of 5 p coins:
3000X (3/6) = 500X3 = 1500.
Ans: 1500
Please tell me, where I am going wrong?
