A train 108 m long moving at a speed of 50 km/hr crosses a train 112 m long coming from opposite direction in 6 seconds. The speed of the second train is:
48 km/hr
54 km/hr
66 km/hr
82 km/hr
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let the speed of the second train be x km/hr.

Relative speed = (x + 50) km/hr
= [ (x + 50) x 5 ] m/sec
18
= [ 250 + 5x ] m/sec.
18

Distance covered = (108 + 112) = 220 m.

Therefore 220 = 6
( 250 + 5x (
18

=> 250 + 5x = 660

=> x = 82 km/hr.

Sir, if the train is moving in an opposite direction the total distance one has to cover is the larger length. So why have we added the two?

How the final answer comes in km per hour? First we are converting into metre per second so we need to convert it into km per hour.

The answer 82 is in m/s. We want to convert it into km/hr, because in first step we convert speed into m/s by multiplying 5/18.

Can we convert 50 km/hr into m/s and add the speed of other trains as they are in opposite directions?

Can anyone explain me?

220m=0.220km : 6 sec = 1/600 hr.

0.220/ (50+x) = 1/600
0.220x600 = (50+x) => 132 = 50+x

x = 132-50=82,
x=82 km/hr.

First take 220/6=36.66 m/s.

Now convert into km/h so 132km/h.
and minus 50km/h from 132 - 50 = 82km/h.
Thanks.

50*5/18 = 13.889 m/sec.
108 + 112/13.889 + x = 22.778.

Since it has to be in km/hr.
23.778*18/5 = 82 km/hr.

(220)m
----------------- =6 sec.
((250+5x)/18)m/s
here,m and s are cancelled so x km/hr.

First convert km/hr in m/secs,
x= 410/18 m/secs.
for km/hr.

41O/18 * 18/5 = 82km/hr.

If everything is converted into m/s then the answer will also be 82m/s not 82 km/hr.
