5.
A train passes a station platform in 36 seconds and a man standing on the platform in 20 seconds. If the speed of the train is 54 km/hr, what is the length of the platform?
120 m
240 m
300 m
None of these
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Speed = 54 x 5 m/sec = 15 m/sec.
18

Length of the train = (15 x 20)m = 300 m.

Let the length of the platform be x metres.

Then, x + 300 = 15
36

x + 300 = 540

x = 240 m.

We have to do 15*(36-20) because train crosses the platform in 36 sec and the man in 20 sec. So the answer should be 240 m.

Answer 240m is possible only if the man is standing at the end of the station.

Am I right or wrong? Please anyone clarify.

I solved in dis manner
54*(5/18)=15
speed =15m/sec
it crossed d platform within 36 secs
for 20 sec=?
36-20=16
16*15=240m

Why length of the train will be 15*20 = 300?

Why not, length of train will be 15*36 = 540?

Please justify the reason.

There is no length for man hence,
L/15 = 20.
L= 300.

And platform has length hence,
L+B/15 =36.
300+B = 540.
B=240.

I think the answer should be 540.

Because, how can the length of the platform be less than the length of the trian?

We can take 15x20 as the train length only if the man is standing at the beginning of the platform. Am I correct.

I have the same doubt & Its not clear from all these explanations. Why you took 15*20 as the distance value?

L/20 = (L+P)/36 = 54*5/18
using compenondo and dividendo means (L+P)-L/36-20
P/16 = 15
SO, P = 15*16
P = 240

To find the length of the train why we use a 20-second time instead of 36 seconds? Anyone please explain to me.
