5.
A train passes a station platform in 36 seconds and a man standing on the platform in 20 seconds. If the speed of the train is 54 km/hr, what is the length of the platform?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Speed = | ![]() |
54 x | 5 | ![]() |
18 |
Length of the train = (15 x 20)m = 300 m.
Let the length of the platform be x metres.
Then, | x + 300 | = 15 |
36 |
x + 300 = 540
x = 240 m.

Hey guys u can do like this u can take the diffeerence between times i.e 36-20=16 seconds
u can change 54km/hr as meters 54*5/18=15
16*15=240meters
u can change 54km/hr as meters 54*5/18=15
16*15=240meters

Speed = 54km/hr
54*5/18 = 15m/s.
Time = 36-20 =16sec.
Length of the platform(D)=?
Distance = speed * time.
Distance = 15 * 16.
Distance = 240 m.
54*5/18 = 15m/s.
Time = 36-20 =16sec.
Length of the platform(D)=?
Distance = speed * time.
Distance = 15 * 16.
Distance = 240 m.

Speed=54*(5/18)=15m/s.
Now time = 36-20=16.
Now distance(i.e length)=speed*time
=15*16
=240m/s.
Now time = 36-20=16.
Now distance(i.e length)=speed*time
=15*16
=240m/s.

Here already taken by speed in 15m/sec.
And train length 15 × 20 = 300 m.
Then why take by the agin 15m/sec× 36 seconds can you explain this?

Time taken to pass a station = 36s.
Time taken to pass a man = 20s.
Difference=16s.
We have,
Distance = Speed X Time.
= 15 X 16.
= 240m.
Time taken to pass a man = 20s.
Difference=16s.
We have,
Distance = Speed X Time.
= 15 X 16.
= 240m.

t1-t2 = 36 - 26 = 16.
We know 54 x 5/18=15,
So putting in formula s=d/t.
15 = d/16, where d is taken as length here;
d = 15 * 16,
= 240.

Another option;
Speed 15.
36-20=16,
.:15*16=240.

The train passes a station 36.
Man on platform 20.
Loss of time man 36-20=16.
Speed = distance/time.
15m/sec = L/16.
15x16 = 240 m.
