5.
A train passes a station platform in 36 seconds and a man standing on the platform in 20 seconds. If the speed of the train is 54 km/hr, what is the length of the platform?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Speed = | ![]() |
54 x | 5 | ![]() |
18 |
Length of the train = (15 x 20)m = 300 m.
Let the length of the platform be x metres.
Then, | x + 300 | = 15 |
36 |
x + 300 = 540
x = 240 m.

Hai friend I will put in another way you will sub higher to lower 36-20 you will get 16 answer and you can multiple:
16*54 = 864.
= 864*5/18.
= 4320/18.
= 240 answer.
16*54 = 864.
= 864*5/18.
= 4320/18.
= 240 answer.

s = d/ t.
Length of train = s*t = 15 m/sec*20 sec = 300 m.
Now let length of platform = x m.
Total length = (300+x) m.
s = d/t.
15 = 300+x/36.
As 123 answer = 250 m
Length of train = s*t = 15 m/sec*20 sec = 300 m.
Now let length of platform = x m.
Total length = (300+x) m.
s = d/t.
15 = 300+x/36.
As 123 answer = 250 m

SIMPLE WAY.
Speed = 54km/hr,
54/3600 * 1000,
=15m/s.
36 sec to pass the platform
15 * 36 = 540.
20 sec to pass the man,
15 * 20 = 300.
i.e distance is 540 - 300 = 240.
Speed = 54km/hr,
54/3600 * 1000,
=15m/s.
36 sec to pass the platform
15 * 36 = 540.
20 sec to pass the man,
15 * 20 = 300.
i.e distance is 540 - 300 = 240.

The simple method is
Train speed is 54km/h*5/18=15m/second
Time taken between man standing on platform and station platform ( 36-20) = 16 sec.
Distance= 15*16 = 240m
Train speed is 54km/h*5/18=15m/second
Time taken between man standing on platform and station platform ( 36-20) = 16 sec.
Distance= 15*16 = 240m

Time taken for reach the platform=36sec.
Time taken for reach a man= 16sec.
Speed (S) = (54*5) /18=15.
Distance between=36-20=16.
Then the distance=16*15.
=240.
Time taken for reach a man= 16sec.
Speed (S) = (54*5) /18=15.
Distance between=36-20=16.
Then the distance=16*15.
=240.

Guys listen.
Take a point as man standing on the platform. So the moving train pass the point at the time of 20 sec.
So, Length of the train = (15 x 20)m = 300 m.

Speed of the train = 54km/hr,
= 54 * 5/18 m/s,
= 15 m/s.
Time = train reach time - man standing time.
= 36 - 20,
= 16s.
Length = Speed * time.
= 15 * 16.
= 240m.
= 54 * 5/18 m/s,
= 15 m/s.
Time = train reach time - man standing time.

= 16s.
Length = Speed * time.
= 15 * 16.
= 240m.

But we don't know where man is standing on the platform. Do we ?
And if we don't know that then how do we supposed to do 15x20= 300 ?
Can anyone tell me that. ?

Speed = l + b (length of train +platforn).
Speed of train = 54*5/18 = 15.
speed = d/t -----> d = s*t.
d = 15*36-20 (time of train - time of man).
d = 240m.
Speed of train = 54*5/18 = 15.
speed = d/t -----> d = s*t.
d = 15*36-20 (time of train - time of man).
d = 240m.
