Two tailors X and Y are paid a total of Rs. 550 per week by their employer. If X is paid 120 percent of the sum paid to Y, how much is Y paid per week?
Rs. 200
Rs. 250
Rs. 300
None of these
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let the sum paid to Y per week be Rs. z.

Then, z + 120% of z = 550.

z + 120 z = 550
100

11 z = 550
5

z = 550 x 5   = 250.

I didn't understand this sum how will come to y=100. Then how will come to 11/5 can you explain for me ?

Naani said:   3 months ago
x + y = 550.
120% + 100% = 550,
6 + 5 = 550,
11 = 550,
550/11 = 50.
5 * 50 = 250,
So, answer = 250.

x+y = 550.
x = 120/100*y.

y = 550-y, Put to the second equation.

we got x=300, y=550-x.
y = 250.

First, find the ratio, X is paid 120%, Y is paid 100, so.

120 : 100 = 6 : 5.
550 = 11x.
5x = 250.

@Aishwarya.

It is simple. You take the reciprocal of 220/100 to RHS and multiply it with 550.

Why 100/220*550?

It should be 100*220/550 which gives final answer as 40.

Please help me.

x+y=550. So you can imagine 550 is 200%.

120% of 550 is 300.

Simply 550-300 = 250.

Here its not mentioned that X earns 120%Y PER WEEK. Can answer be "none of these"?

Let x + y = 550,
x = 120% of y,
1.2y + y = 550,
2.2y = 550,
y = 550/2.2,
y = 250.

x=100%, y=120%.

x+y=220%.
=> 550/220 = 2.5.
=> 2.5 * x.
So, 2.5 * 100 = 250.
