12.
Two tailors X and Y are paid a total of Rs. 550 per week by their employer. If X is paid 120 percent of the sum paid to Y, how much is Y paid per week?
Rs. 200
Rs. 250
Rs. 300
None of these
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let the sum paid to Y per week be Rs. z.

Then, z + 120% of z = 550.

z + 120 z = 550
100

11 z = 550
5

z = 550 x 5   = 250.

Given :x + y = 550 ,
y = 550 - x,
x = (120*y)/100,
x = (120*550-x)/100,
x = 66000/220,
x = 300,
y = 550 - 300 = 250.

X + Y = 550.
X = 1.2Y.
1.2Y + Y = 550.
2.2Y = 550.
Y= 550/2.2,
Y= 250.

x + 1.2x = 550.
2.2x = 550,
x = 250.

If y get 100 and x get 120.
So sum of 100 and 120 is 220.
Now we directly get answer see,

If total is 220 so y get 100.
If total is 550 so y get ?
Let's solve it;
550*100/220 = 250.

Given,
X=120/100 Y.
X=6/5 Y.

Now X+Y=550.
And 6/5 Y+Y=550.

11Y/5=550.
Y/5=50.
Y=250.

Hope you would find it more simple then other method.

Let y's payment be-> z and x's be -> 120% z.
x + y = 550
z + (120/100)z = 550.

By taking z out from the eqn,
z(1+(6/5)) = 550

=>taking LCM,
z((5+6)/5) = 550,
z(11/5) = 550,
z = (550*5)/11,
z = 250.

Therefore the payment is 250.

Let y be 120% of x then,
550 = x +120x/100,
Or x=55000/220 =250.
